Chapter Three
“Katy’s girlfriend, Amanda, brought us to an underground club in Little Rock. It was kind of like going back into a 1920s speakeasy; a basement club for gay people that was invite only. I never knew that such places still existed and it was so bizarre. Women dancing with women and men flirting with other men; it was like another world.” Kris broke the quiet on the late night while lying on Adam’s chest. The midnight sky was speckled with stars and every now and then lights from an airplane. “I was a little uncomfortable at first but after five minutes I came to the realization that everyone there was like me. It was the only time I have ever danced in public and I didn’t care who was watching. ”
“My friend tried to get me to go to a gay club with her. Unlike Katy, however, Danielle is very much into men and thinks that I should be as well. She knows that Neil is a prick but she doesn’t know…” Adam paused. Looking down at Kris on his chest, he laughed. “She would love to see me now. She said that I had to give you a ‘thank you kiss’ for ‘rescuing’ me.”
“You could. I mean, if you wanted to.” Kris could feel the red spreading across his face and kept his gaze on the stars. “I haven’t before, beside Katy, but that wasn’t…”
“I haven’t either.” Adam started to become very aware of the fact that Kris was lying on top of him and could feel his breathing increase. “I want to.”
Kris let Adam’s words hang in the air. Raising himself up, he twisted around so that he looking down at Adam. He saw the panic in Adam’s eyes and started to say that they didn’t have to, but before he could speak Adam sat up to face him.
Inching his face closer, Kris tilted his head to the left and once again felt himself blush. His eyes were locked on Adam's lips until right before he felt Adam's lips brush against his own and then he had to remember how to breathe.
Adam felt the rush move through his body at Kris touch and raised his hand to comb through the soft hair on the back of Kris’s head. Parting his lips, he captured Kris’s bottom lip between his own and moaned as Kris increased the pressure on his lips.
Pulling back, Kris stared at Adam as he fought to catch his breath. The panic in Adam’s eyes had been replaced with a look of want that made it that much harder to breath.
Adam increased his grip on Kris’s hair as he pulled him back towards his lips. Brushing his tongue against Kris’s top lip, he lost himself as Kris sucked him in. As his tongue swiped against Kris’s, he moaned and placed a hand on the small of Kris’s back to pull his body to his own. He couldn’t get enough of his touch.
Kris’s wrapped his arms around Adam’s back and surrendered himself.
“Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again.” Kris rested his forehead against Adam’s. He could still feel Adam’s lips against his own. “Sorry, we are reading Shakespeare right now.”
Adam’s lips still tingled from Kris’s touch as he smiled. “Shakespeare was a brilliant writer but I don’t see how anyone could think that they could describe a first kiss.”
“Or a second.” Kris smiled against Adam’s mouth as he took his lips again.

“Kris, breakfast is on the table. If you hurry, you might get to eat some of it.” Kim called out to her son from the kitchen as she heard the front door open.
“Thanks, Mom.” Kris squeezed Adam’s hand before running up the stairs to get ready for school. Looking back over his shoulder, Kris tripped on a step and fell forward. Quickly standing up, he rushed upstairs without another glance.
Watching Kris disappear up the stairs, Adam brushed his fingers against his lips and smiled at the thought of Kris waking him up. They had stayed up late exploring one another but every kiss still felt like the first.
“Adam, come eat some breakfast before it gets too cold.” Kim’s voice snapped Adam out of his daze. Brushing a hand through his hair, Adam tried to compose himself. Walking into the kitchen, the smell of bacon and eggs met him.
“Morning, Sunshine.” Kim smiled over to him as she stood by sink. “I love making a mess cooking breakfast, but the clean up drives me nuts.”
“I could help.” Walking towards the sink, Adam focused on the window behind it. Kris had reassured him on the way over that his parents wouldn’t be mad at them staying out all night, but Adam still felt like he had a responsibility to the family for taking him in. He knew his parents would have had a problem with Adam not coming home without warning. “I’m not hungry right now.”
“Kris is a nice boy with a big heart. He would give away his last dollar if someone asked him for it.” Kim handled Adam a pan to wash and waited for Adam to respond.
“Kris is an amazing person. Your whole family has been wonderful to me.” Adam scrubbed the pan as he talked. “I don’t know how I could ever thank you.”
“Don’t break his heart.” Watching Adam drop the pan into the soapy water, Kim looked up to see Adam staring back at her with wide eyes. “Mothers know all, Adam.”
“I…I…I…” Adam choked on his words as his mind went blank. He wanted to move but his feet were frozen on the floor.
“Calm down, dear.” Kim rubbed Adam’s back. “I only want the best life for my son and I know that you don’t plan on staying.”
“I…” Adam closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Kris is best thing in my life right now. I have only known him for a few days but I feel like he understands me. There is a connection that I have never felt before.”
“Make sure you know what you want before things move too far. Kris doesn’t have much experience with this and I…”
“I don’t have any experience with this either Mrs. Allen. I know that I’m older than him but he is the first…” Adam felt himself rambling and stopped himself before he revealed more information than he wanted to with the mother of the man he had just woke up next to. Kris and him had only spent the night kissing but he still didn’t feel comfortable having this conversation. “He is my first too, is what I’m trying to say.”
“I will be back for lunch. Half day.” Kris popped his head into the kitchen. “I was thinking that I could show Adam around town tonight. I know Katy wants to meet him and we might all grab a bite to eat.”
“Your father will be happy to have an extra set of hands cleaning the barns. I think that it is Adam’s task for today.” Kim smiled between her son and Adam. “And go have fun tonight. Your brother said something about missing dinner too. Maybe your father and I will have our own date night as well and remember what it is like not to have children driving us to an early grave.”
“You live for your children, Mom.” Kris laughed as his mother shook her head before going back to the dishes. Giving Adam a wink, he hurried off to his truck.

“Is the sun always shining in California? The movies always make it seem like you have two states of weather: bright sunshine or even brighter sunshine?” Katy asked sitting between Adam and Kris in the S10. Katy’s long blonde hair bounced as she turned her head to focus her attention on Adam. She liked him even before she was introduced. Anyone that could make Kris smile all day long was good in her book.
“We get a lot of sun in San Diego, but we also get rain. Sometimes a slight chill or two.” Katy’s endless energy was contagious and he felt himself perking up after a long day of washing down the barns. Kris had come home around one to help, but Adam couldn’t remember the last time he had worked so hard.
“Kris said you are a singer and want to try your luck on Broadway. Kris sings too. Did he tell you?” Katy tucked her arm under Kris’s as she talked. She knew that Kris must have shared that little detail with Adam but she also knew that Kris liked to keep it private.
“He played me a little on his guitar, but I haven’t heard him sing.” Adam looked over to Kris as he talked and smiled at the blush spreading across Kris’s cheeks. Looking down to the arm wrapped around Kris’s, he understood why people thought they were a couple. To the outside observer, they appeared perfect for one another and made an adorable couple.
“We have to search out an open mic night. They had one last year during our Octoberfest, but I couldn’t get Kris to get on stage. He is so modest.” Pinching Kris’s stomach, she quickly jumped Adam’s way to stop Kris from getting her back. Giggling as Kris parked the truck, she opened Adam’s door and escaped out before Kris turned off the truck.
“She is always like this. She is like a shot of caffeine.” Sliding his hand across the seat, he took Adam’s hand. “People expect her to accompany me; I would take you out on my own if I could.”
“No. She is wonderful. I can see why you two are such good friends; you kind of balance each other out.” Adam rubbed his thumb across the top of Kris’s hand. “I want to kiss you.”
“Later.” Kris smiled. “First, we need to go make sure Katy doesn’t order enough food for an army. She eats like a truck driver and doesn’t understand why I can never finish my plate when I’m around her.”

“I don’t want you to leave.” Kris ran his hand through Adam’s hair as Adam’s head rested on his lap. After dropping Katy off, Kris drove them to his barn. Pushing Adam against the door, Kris kissed him until they were both breathless and then led him inside to the bed. “You just came into my life and I feel like you are going to leave soon.”
“My plan never was to stay.” Adam looked up into the lush brown of Kris’s eyes and felt Kris’s hand still in his hair. “I didn’t plan on meeting you.”
“Well, you did.” Kris moved his hand to trace Adam’s lips. “Tell me that doesn’t change things.”
“It changes everything. You changed everything.” Kissing Kris’s fingers, he reached up to pull Kris down towards him. With Kris hovering over his lips, he lost his thought and closed the distance between them. Tuning out all the voices in his head, Adam grabbed Kris’s hand and lowered it down his body. As their combined hands rested on his lap, he broke their kiss and stared up with wide eyes.
“O, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?” Kris smirked as he pressed his hand down.
“You want me to remember Shakespeare when you have your hand on my dick?” Adam moaned pressing his head back onto Kris’s legs. “God, something about what kind of satisfaction.”
Removing his hand from Adam’s, Kris slid it into Adam’s pants and continued the pleasant pressure on Adam’s growing erection. There was something about having Adam under his control that made him bolder than he normally was and he liked the feeling. “If I only have a short time with you, I don’t want to waste it. I want you.”
Raising his head a mere few inches, he pushed his tongue past Kris’s lips and raised his body without breaking the kiss. Shifting so that his body laid on top of Kris’s, his hands went to work removing the clothing that separated them.
Breaking contact only to remove their shirts, Kris’s hands ran up Adam’s back and then down as he pulled his body closer. Opening his legs, he felt Adam full body pressing him down into the old cot. Without any clothing separating them, Kris moaned into Adam’s mouth as their erections moved against one another.
The feel of Kris was in every part of his body and he knew they both wouldn’t last much longer. With a flash of light behind his eyes, Adam’s body shuddered in his release. Slowing down his movements, he felt Kris lose control underneath him and they both slowly moved against one another as their bodies recovered.
Resting his head against Kris’s chest, Adam felt the tiredness pulling him into a deep sleep and he let himself fall.
Underneath him, Kris lay staring at the rafters of the first floor. It was amazing how much your life could change when you least expected it.

“It has been a pleasure having you around. If you are ever looking for a place to stay in Arkansas, our door is always open.” Neil Allen tightened his arm around Adam’s back. “Next time, I might let you stay without working.”
“Thank you for everything. I don’t know where I would be right now without your help.” Adam released Neil and moved the short distance to hug Kim. “I will call when I get in.”
“I will miss you, Adam. Go live out your dreams. And remember, never lose sight of the light inside of you and never let anyone take that away.” Kim squeezed him tight as she spoke into his ear. Releasing him with tears in her eyes, she smiled through them. “I can’t believe you are leaving us already.”
“Where is Kris?” Adam looked around the Little Rock airport searching for the boy that stole his heart.
“He never did well with good-byes. When he went off to summer camp the first time, he left a note on the kitchen table and got Katy’s parents to drive him.” Neil laughed at the memory. “Now go get on the plane before I start crying. Trust me; it is not a pretty sight at my age.”
With a heavy heart, Adam gave them both another hug before boarding onto his plane. His time in Conway would always stay with him; he had grown in more ways than he thought was possible.
Taking his window seat, Adam felt the tears in his eyes and brushed them away before they could fall.
“That is why I don’t do good-byes. My dad is an emotional wreck and my mom fights back the tears, but they always come.” Kris sat down next to him and took his hand. “It is much better to just leave a heart-felt note and call them when I arrive.”
“Thanks for leaving me to do the good-byes for both of us. They are your parents you know.” Adam laughed leaning his head back against the seat.
“They adopted you in their hearts the moment you stepped foot in our house last year.” Laying his head down on Adam’s shoulder, he brought their combined hands up to kiss the back of Adam’s hand. “Ready to go back?”
“I think it is long overdue. My mother couldn’t stop crying when I called and my father was also an emotional wreck.” Resting his chin on Kris’s head, Adam continued. “I’m finally ready to face my biggest fear and I have you to thank for that.”
“Oh, well, I’m just coming to soak up some sun and celebrate never having to go to school again.”
“Bullshit.” Adam dropped Kris’s hand and used his to tilt Kris’s head up. “I love you.”
“I love you.” Kris smiled back. “Now tell me all about everything having to do with San Diego. I want to go to the zoo and Sea World and…”
