My first day at FIT was sort of...disappointing, I guess. I asked David to escort me into the city, which he was nice enough to do. I was a teensy bit late to class because I had to hand in my parent consent form. So, when I got into the class, there were no visible chairs left. I stood at my easel for three hours. Awesome. The teacher, an old man with close to no hair and a slight frame, talked pretentiously of the necessity and practicality of art. He described simple principles of gesture drawings a if it was grand art fit for royalty. It was annoying, to say the least. After about an hour of that, a few of my classmates volunteered to model, so that the rest of us could draw a bit. Mr. Santuouso (sp?) came around to see mine, and I had a sort of smirk tugging at my lips, because everyone in the class sucked and mine was by far the best. He says, "well, you've obviously done this before." But his tone implied that experience was like cheating. I affirm the comment, and he starts explaining that I'd made the chin to masculine, and that it ruined the entire drawing and went on and on. I felt badly about it, and it sort of ruined my day. The man was weird, speaking about how artists were going to "get us out of the mess we're in." Nearing the end of the class, a girl I'd noticed in the beginning approached me and we started talking. She was wearing a white and black patterned dress with black tights and pink 8 eye doc martens. She looked like a hipster, but she seemed fairly intelligent and down to earth. She lives in NYC and her Dad is an art dealer. Huh. I took the train back home myself after getting lost a few times walking the six blocks to Penn Station.

The week got steadily better, Santouso (sp?) actually making positive comments on Wednesday. Eve, that girl, is pretty rich and sort of Catholic. I don't think I'll hang out with her outside of school ever. She's inquisitive and pretty interesting, but if I ever thought I felt self conscious of my background before-WOAH, this is ridiculous. I'm from Long Island, my family is weirdly religious, and we're not exactly wealthy. I'm awkward and I've never had a boyfriend. But Eve still seeks me out (she is friendly with just about everyone in the class, but speaks to me the most, I think).

I can almost navigate the LIRR and have kind of figured out how NYC streets work.

Kim hit me up this week, which was flattering and surprising. I am almost always the person to initiate soshals, and getting confirmation that people still like me is great. Kim, Erica, Kathleen and Jackie and I hung out last night. Erica and I have definitely grown apart, which is ridiculous because we were actually close for a while...Maybe I'm just crazy.
