Summary: Her prayers whispered to the wind had been led astray again.
Shadows danced on the walls, moving in time with the flickering candlelight. A soft breeze swept in through the open window, kissing the wet trails the tears left on her cheeks. She thought she could almost smell the sweet scent of rum and exotic spices in the air.
Slipping out of her cocoon of blankets, that she often pretended was his strong embrace; she walked slowly to the window and stared down to the mouth of the harbour. It seemed her prayers whispered to the wind had been led astray yet again. Her sun bleached locks whipped around her face and she turned into the wind. She closed her eyes and bit back the sting of loneliness, masking it with false hope, almost seeing the black sails coming across the horizon.
