 Because of the insane amount of rain that we've had, the basement has been taken over by water.  I've been working on getting everything off of the floor, setting up fans,  and sweeping water into the drain.  So far it's helping, if only a little bit ( Read more... )

Having delt with my very own hurricane katrina in my basement here is some advice. Most home owners insurance does not have flood protection. Check your polocy. Most will come with a $5000 sump pump protection. This is dispite you have a sump pump or not. If you get this money you will have to have your basement professionally cleaned. They use industrial fans and anit-mold chemicals. This is important because mold can seriously decrese the value of your home. That usually runs about $1000 bucks.

After the flood I increased my coverage to $10,000. You may want to do the same.
