For Your Benefit...

I'm not usually one to pimp a Broadway show. Not because some of them aren't incredible, but because a) I don't live in NYC and b) shows have gotten so damned expensive. I mean, I already think ticket prices at small houses in LA are bad enough -- to say nothing of seeing a show at the Geffen, ouch. Broadway is out and out robbery. Most of the time ( Read more... )

Oooh! Interesting! I'm hoping to be up in New York at the end of May/beginning of June to visit a friend... We were thinking about going to see The Book of Mormon... Would you recommend this instead?

It depends a bit on your tastes... and how much money you have. I haven't seen Book of Mormon, excepting a few performance numbers and having the soundtrack. The friends I have who've seen it liked it a lot, but everyone agrees it's waaaaaaaaay overpriced, and therefore a bit overrated. It's a very classic kind of American musical, though, just in the hands of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
I can't entirely compare as I haven't seen BoM, but I can say that if someone asked me to drop $65 on One Man, Two Guvnors (the rate I've found most common for tix), I would do it without hesitation. If they asked me to drop the $150+++ (if you're lucky) on BoM, I'd prolly shrug and say, "I'll wait for the (inevitable) movie."

What about How to Succeed in Business? Wasn't Darren Criss in that? Did you get a chance to see if before he left? (You realize that you've just opened up a Pandora's Box, right? I'm going to be pestering you with questions every time I want to go see something in New York now! ;P )

Thanks for your professional opinion, heh. :)

Nick Jonas is currently starring in HtS. *hurk* That was the one that Darren stepped into between Daniel Radcliffe and The Littlest Jonas. It's a pretty standard 'young guy looking for his dreams, hits obstacles, assesses life, lives happily ever after' show. The music is fun, but nothing outstanding.
And feel free to ask about anything that piques your fancy in NYC. If I don't know much about it, I have literally dozens of friends who will. :)
