Day 03 - The best book you've read in the last 12 months

This past year has been pretty sad for book reading, I freely admit. Though I did re-read 4 of the 5 ASoIaF novels again.
I think the "best" book (in terms of 'most likely to get worldwide praise for storytelling, structure, language, etc') was Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane

I think everyone who isn't me answered The Ocean at the End of the Lane as either the best book in the last 12 months or the worst book in the last 12 months. Guess I should add it to my to-read list.

I'm not sure why it's so polarizing, at least from a composition standpoint. I thought it was a beautifully put together book, and even the issues I had with some of its themes, I found it to be a whimsical, terrifying, fun ride. And it's really short, which is a nice break from the tomes of Stephen King and GRRM that I've grown accustomed to.
