my thoughts on Castiel, possible spoilers and the season finally

May 19, 2011 00:10

Like the subject says, these are my thoughts regarding Castiel and the finale, based on my own theories and assumptions. So possible spoilers ahead, you've been warned.

Firstly, I love Castiel. And to me, he’s almost like the Spike character from “Buffy”. He started out as a guest star; someone who was only supposed to be on for a few episodes, but his arch was carried out and extended, partially because he was such a popular character and actor. Soon Spike was a full-time cast member and few of us Buffy fans can imagine the show without him.

Castiel has now been on the show for half its run. Sure he hasn’t been on every episode, but he’s been part of the story for three seasons. I’m (as well as many many other fans) am very attached to him. It’s hard for me to picture next season without him. To me, he’s very much apart of the show.

I don’t want him to be killed. I really, really don’t. I don’t want him to change vessels either, because frankly, that’s just kind of lazy and I think the only reason they would do that, is to put him in a female vessel so Cas and Dean could ‘be together.’ I wish that the producers would have the balls for Dean and Cas to get together as-is, (even though I am a Dean/Lisa shipper), but that is an entirely different rant, and I digress.

I have two thoughts on what I THINK is going to happen to Cas. So these aren’t confirmed anything, just my thoughts based on spoilers, my wild imagination and the fact that Ben Englund worked on Buffy.

I think Cas may Fall. It would wrap up the whole Angel story-line, without getting rid of him. If he Falls, this time I think it would be of his own free will (as he keeps preaching about), so therefore, he wouldn’t be that broken shell of a man in “The End”, since in that ‘verse, it was a bit of a punishment, whereas if he did it now, it would be HIS choice and the way he wants to LIVE his life. And you know, I’m sure it will have something to do with saving the world and Heaven. I also think the road of human!Cas would be an interesting storyline, and work with rebuilding his relationship with the boys and Bobby.

I’ve heard thoughts of him going dark side. I don’t like this idea. His intentions are pure (yeah I know, the path to Hell is paved with good intentions), he’s conflicted about working with Crowley and what he has to do to keep the boys and Heaven safe, so if he went dark side, I think that would be out of place.

I fear he may die. I don’t know if Misha is leaving, I haven’t heard rumors, but that whole ‘unexpected death’ spoiler keeps looming in my mind. I don’t want Bobby to die either, Crowley is great but I’d trade him for Cas. I’ve pretty much accepted that Lisa is going to die; I don’t know if they’d kill Ben because that would REALLY destroy Dean. I think Lisa’s probable death will haunt him as well. Say what you will about them both, but Dean DOES care for them whether certain members of fandom like it or not.

But Cas has died in the last two finales; another theory that I have with that, is that Cas may die to save the world, but be brought back in season 7, what has happened in the past with Dean and Sam.

Ideally I would have liked Gabriel to come back so he could take over Heaven and Cas could still hang out with the boys.

In conclusion. I love Cas, he’s very dear to my fangirl heart. I want him to stay on the show until the end of its run; for me, he’s just as a part of it as Sam, Dean or Bobby. I wouldn’t mind a fallen!Cas storyline. I wouldn’t mind if he died and came back in season seven. I would hate evil!Cas, because it wouldn’t make sense. Cas dying and NOT coming back would make me sad in ways that only Joss Whedon has made me sad and there would be angry letters to Kripke and Sara Gamble. I’m just sayin’.
