Musings on being an only child

I've been reading the book "Only Child: writers on the singular joys and solitary sorrows of growing up solo," a collection of short stories by different authors reflecting on growing up without siblings. I didn't personally relate to much in the book, it was more or less either appreciating the writing styles or interested in aspects of other ( Read more... )

I am technically an only child, since my brother was born when I was almost 8. I guess they classify children with that big of an age gap as two only-child siblings, not really fitting into the typical roles of older and younger.
I relate to the quote you posted above, only, for some unnerving reason, I absolutely need to be surrounded by people. They don't have to be talking to me or even in the same room, but I always feel more comfortable with a full house. It's strange.
