because he looked like a cat, so I decided he should have a tail. It's the cord from my dressing gown.

What bit of the popper were you lighting?

Lighting the string doesn't work, because the flame can't get inside the container, regardless of which was up it is.

Removing the coils of paper and setting fire to something underneath the it doesn't work, because the piece of card that separates the gas and the paper is flame retardant.

Potentially I think putting it over a candle, which would hold a flame much longer, may eventually melt the container enough for the gas to be able to light, but we didn't have any candles. I'm not even sure that would work though, because the plastic certainly didn't seem to be affected by any of the various quantities of fire we exposed it to.

I did not 'pass out drunk'. I was merely very tired, and laid down to have a nap.
