Didn't they do a termite inspection before you bought the house?
If you didn't have one done, I'd suggest you have someone come in and make a thorough inspection. It's highly unlikely that's confined to one little area...and that level of devastation isn't going to last through much.
We did have it inspected during the Option Period, but there was no way of knowing how bad the damage was behind the sheetrock. We have personally treated it 3 times and everytime we see them come back it's in the bathroom. The man coming Monday says he is using a new chemical that not only drys them out, but infects and kills the whole colony by transfer method, so it gets back to the queen. He is going to treat the whole house as well as look for a source in the bathroom where they may be coming from. I bet there was a leak in the tub wall that was feeding them and that is one reason we decided to rip it to down to the studs, to find the source.
