Help me tech peeps

Okay, so I am seriously considering buying an HDTV but I don't know a ton about all the different options. I heard that the 1080p ones are the best, but those might be too expensive. What about the difference between plasma/LCD/CRT? Are there certain brands to stay away from? Is there a new wave of TVs coming out soon that will cause a nice ( Read more... )

Plasmas offer the crispest screen possible but the problem is that they use a type of gas that leaks over time and you must replace it within a couple of years - very expensive. CRT is a Cathode Ray Tube TV - your basic TV. LCD is another type of HD screen that is much cheaper than Plasma. 1080p is the way to go - that is if you have several thousand dollars and the right equipment to support it. The most affordable HD would be 720p. You can get one sub-$1000. The picture still looks great and will support HD channels. 1080i is a step down from 1080p but is still incredible looking and cost much much less. Expect to pay well over $1000 for them.
