I've actually broken mirrors purposely in the past for use in my art, and if I see an upright ladder with easy access to walk under I will often take that route as a preference to "avoiding" bad luck. when I typed this in I brought up my friends contact posts and saw that you had a few 'gloomy' entries. I didn't get a chance to read anything after I brought it up but was just scanning in the 3 minutes I had before I was running out the door.

I hope you are ok. Obviously I do not know what's been going on, but I am thinking of you.

Superstitions... that's a neat topic. I grew up pretty anti-establishment and counterculture (blame my aunt!), so as a kid I purposefully did all of the "bad luck" things, and find that do them out of habit now. (No, I don't break mirrors out of habit.) Of course, like you said, we're all prone to our own modern superstitions - I think we call them rituals or routines, now. Don't you think that's how superstitions got started?

It was actually the Writer's Block prompt. I write so little at LJ these days that it is sometimes fun to just look it up and see if it stimulates my thought processes.

Broke a few by accident. Had bad luck for a long time afterward (although I don't know if it was seven years worth or not).

Of COURSE, I don't believe that superstition, but I fear breaking mirrors anyway. Silly me. Was it really bad luck or just my subconscious making a connection?

...it was that you did it by accident!

Perhaps because I only do it on purpose it doesn't work on me...I dunno...maybe your subconscious worked against you.
