The Great International Cadbury Chocolate Tasting Session

Feb 15, 2007 00:34

Have you ever wondered which country produces the tastiest Cadbury's chocolate? Some people at my very international workplace did, and so decided to hold a taste test to see which was the best. Thus, eight mostly PhD-qualified scientists met to conduct a very (un)scientific experiment. Representative chocolates came from five different countries: ( Read more... )

While I won't list references from Chapter 5 on how to conduct a blind taste test, I will ask this. What was your favourite chocolate?

I gotta agree.. needs to be a second round of tasting to confirm these results.

Also: this feisty, controversial Irish chocolate sounds exciting.

And since I'm in the winning country.. hmm, I should probably at least try the chocolate once while I'm here ;)

I was going to say double-blind test, because I've heard it before and sounds cool and sort of scientific, but I don't think it was double blind, so I settled for a single.

My favourite chocolate is Lindt. But from the Cadbury countries represented, I chose the Irish.

Ahh a Lindt man, Cath would be proud. Chocolate [and bitter taste in general] is a pain to do taste tests owing to its after taste and more importantly taste satiation where your tongue gradually acclimitises itself to repeated sampling of similar compounds. Alot of the work done on PTC has shown that even those who reject it outright to begin with, gradually acclimitize to it over time and exposure and you have to basically counter it with a saline solution to rejig the taste bugs.

Still pretty fascinating result, I never would have guessed Canada. Would be interesting [like Burdo said] to try the double blind test to see if results changed :)

Someone once told me that Canadian Cadbury's chocolate is like eating a candle.... and I'm inclined to agree!
