Yeah it was pretty crazy, but it totally makes sense.
Humans are meant to be the most adaptable species so it kind of makes sense that we can change to environmental effects... otherwise we'd be unable to adapt to even simple things like the climate change moving from say Europe to Australia.
I think it's totally rad too how plants are more complex than humans are, genome speaking. I can't remember if they explained that or not but I guess photosynthesis is a lot more complex than whatever causes us to need our balanced (ish) diets!
hehe... genomely speaking.. thats a new one ;) Plants have a couple of hundred million years of evolution over us (that we know of).. and photosynthesis is the ultimate 'sustainable' energy source.. im sure they got smart long ago and made a planned or forced change (kinda like the chinese) to the method that provided he most prolonged nourishment possible.
Id like to know if theyve found anything about re-triggering the switches that theyve found.. I guess thats the next step, to actually identify what means what and 'fix' what's changed.
Maybe thats what has always been said about living a balanced life.. everything in moderation (including moderation).. an exercise in neutrality instead of adding the the pressures of past gennerations.
Well, with peak oil and miscellaneous energy crisises around the place, I'd say humans should be looking at photosynthesis too! Plus, with the depletion of our ozone layer, it's becoming a more effective tool as the days go by!
I always thought once they'd cracked the human genome that the next step would be Gattica for all! That would be kind of cool, except of course we'll never see another Stephen Hawking because no one would bear children with that off-balanced set of skills. Would you have a super brainiac child if you knew their life would be spent immobile? Although I guess darwinism would still hold even here - I mean, one person probably wouldn't, but for every million that don't there would be one that did. Just like real life :)
