Yesterday we interviewed yet another candidate for the assistant to the head of unit post. This one was absolutely fantastic, even better than any of the others have been. The long weekend continues - we still had a day off today so I went to see Pride and Prejudice with Anna Maija. For me, the BBC series will always be the one true P & P, and Colin Firth the one true Darcy, but this version was not bad at all. I was told late last night that we will be travelling to Finland tonight. :-) I already knew we would be taking a trip somewhere, because my birthday is on Sunday and a couple of weeks ago Bee asked me to take Friday off, but I had no idea where we would be going. Got up around 11 a.m and found out that there was no power in the whole building. Soon Claudia from downstairs knocked on the door and told us that the power had been out since 9 a.m., she had contacted Sibelga and they were working on the problem (which was affecting around 15 houses on our street) but couldn't say how long it would be, just that ( Read more... )

Saw Crash today. For some reason it's taken a long time to get here - it was released in the UK in August already, and in Finland a month ago. Anyway, it was a brilliant movie - easily the best one I've seen all year. I can't remember the last film to affect me emotionally in the way that this one did.

I was just watching an episode of The Simpsons which I taped yesterday, and there in the midst of all the fun, a character quoted three lines that sounded quite lovely. So I googled them and found out that they are from a poem by Robert Frost, and that said poem seems to be very famous in the USA, especially since it was quoted in The Outsiders. I' ( Read more... )

October has started, so I guess the summer is officially over. The weather hasn't cooled down much yet, it's currently almost 19 degrees outside. The evenings are getting chilly though; yesterday was the first time we had the heating on. Only for about an hour, but still. Also changed the summer curtains in the living room to the winter ones.
