Basically I came to love each of these characters more than ever in this book. I knew Snape was good, and I figured that Dumbledore had asked him to kill him, and that Snape did not want to do it. I had no idea, though, that it was not only to save Draco but also to spare DD a painful death from the cursed ring. So I was VERY emotional as I read the part of the book with all of Snape's memories. The idea of him being his father momentarily floated through my mind until I remembered that Harry was the spitting image of James

Oh, and when Harry had his parents with him and asked them to stay near him til the end. That part totally choked me up. Jo wrote it so beautifully, the reader could actually feel all that Harry was feeling at that moment. And Dumbledore's line about even if it's all in his head, does that make it less real? It sort of seems like a little acknowledgement to the readers, in that while these stories are words on a page, to us there is something almost real about it. That is why we care so much about these characters, their journeys, struggles, and ultimately their triumphs

I don't remember reading anything about what James & Lily did for a living. I would look back, but I already loaned my book for mom to read, LOL. There are many things though that I do want to re-read. Like Snapes death for instance. I didn't even realise it until someone else pointed it out in their LJ, and then you mentioned it - about how Snape told Harry to look at him before he died. It didn't even occur to me that since Harry had Lily's eyes, that he would want to die looking into them. That just made me weepy all over again, LOL. I really wish JKR hadn't killed him and that he & Harry could have gotten a chance to really know each other after Voldemort's death. But in any case, he did die a noble death, and Harry was able to see Snape for the man he really was
