Got thinking about the fandom and time management thing, so rather than do anything useful (either fannish or otherwise), wrote this. Partly - er - based on personal experience but, y'know, it was for fun:
Saturday
Could have used more sleep (late night discussing major fandom issues and surfing absolutely essential information for latest story), but needed to check mail and mailing list urgently in case new story somebody promised is up.
Not up. Hmph. Also went through all the addresses because haven't checked some lately. I mean, somebody might have sent feedback on address used three pseuds ago to a story in a fandom far, far away.
No mail. Pout.
Live journal - thin harvest. Maybe people dared go out last night. What the heck for when they could be posting about fandom stuff? Pout again.
Debated on whether to read other new stories I keep meaning to catch up on (where did I put that post-it with the titles?) or to write a bit. Which story, though?
Started new story. Am idiot, but inspiration struck. Go me.
Forgot to eat. Yelled at husband and kids who apparently thought eating was a good idea. Wondered why they complained because the freezer is full of frozen pizza. Husband burned pizza. Made pasta. Had vague ideas about pasta story.
Wrote a bit more and didn't like last bit. Made token effort with vacuum cleaner, then started to put washing in, but had an idea for a bit of dialogue.
More writing. Tweaked website. Checked mail and LJ. Very interesting post I had to comment on. Why doesn't LJ give more comment space? Hmph.
Must go to bed. Husband will no doubt complain about reading printouts of stories again. Have promised to find stapler to avoid excessive invasion of bedspace by large number of loose pages in future. Can't find stapler so decided to read it and then go to bed.
Thing is, story has sparked off more ideas about dialogue in current story. Must just jot down dialogue on another post-it.
Sunday
Slept late because of late-night scribbling. Resolved to Use Day Wisely (and put large number of post-its with notes on where I can find them)..
Went for a walk. Forgot to take notebook, so tried to remember bits of narrative inspired by old couple on park bench. Cooked lunch thinking about pasta story. Have forgotten bits of narrative. Damn. Did find the post-its, though, including one with story titles. Go me. Praise da Lord for post-its.
Discovered washing machine wasn't turned on yesterday. Focus thus needed on underwear situation. Had slashy thoughts, disturbingly provoked by folding husband's y-fronts.
Dug up old slash story as reward, and was amazed at self (not in a good way in parts but quite pleasantly so in others). Added a bit to it, though. As you do. Then was overcome by guilt relating to Ironing Mountain.
Escaped ironing after minimum weekly shirt requirement in order to join scheduled chat. Chat went on rather a long time, but did pause to remove bread from freezer and instruct kids on the fact that mould on cheese is a natural phenomenon.
Quiet Sunday evening surfing, inspired by kindly provided link. Who could imagine Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic, eh?
Monday
Work. Didn't manage to check mail first (slightly late night followed by difficulty in gearing up for new week) so had to wait until coffee break. Congratulated self on perfecting the art of looking nonchalant when reading personal mail and on ability to switch from LJ window to work window at lightning speed.
Discovered very hot story (phoarrrr) to peruse at lunchtime. Said hot story seriously affected capacity to think straight all afternoon. Resolved to avoid this in future as job is somewhat vital in the great scheme of things.
Called into supermarket in same spirit of making good resolutions, to buy fresh food (OK, ready-roasted chicken). Can't have family thinking I neglect them.
Nearly killed family for lingering over dinner, because had set the evening aside to upload stuff to website. Was horrified over request to over-write my elderly videos of a certain TV series. They will be sentenced to frozen pizza for several months and be provided with no clean clothes for six months if they even suggest it again. Families, eh?
Started work on website, but then needed to answer several mails, and chat. Computer did strange things, which is very worrying.
Early night. Took notebook to bed in case dialogue ideas happened. No dialogue ideas, however. Typical.
Tuesday
Was amazing. Worked really well. Got ahead. Possibly exaggerated a little on lunch break, but brought latest story plus notes for pasta story… so advanced on that a bit.
Also cooked amazing meal (pasta, because I wanted to see if the middle section rang true).
Found interesting post about icon-making which led to late night. Crappy results with own icons. Copied some excellent eye candy onto USB pen for ogling purposes. Work has, after all, no policy on screen savers. Yet. And most of the guys are fully dressed. Well, some.
Home PC making funny noises.
Wednesday
BAD day. Computer wouldn't boot before work. Spent entire day worrying about it despite having backups on CDs… somewhere. Didn't even write at lunchtime (but did manage to do quick beta for somebody, also on USB pen).
Encouraged husband to fix computer by cooking steak. Computer wasn't fixed. He's back on pizza tomorrow if he's not careful.
Still no feedback on any mail address. Why don't people recognise my genius? I'd check the links on my website if I could. And I'm missing all the good discussion on that metafandom site. Damn.
Had to resort to re-watching vids - another anxious moment as suspected briefly that one had been overwritten with crappy adolescent-type stuff (the horror) but false alarm. At least that.
Deep withdrawal, however. Must go into work early tomorrow.
Thursday
Boss in, so limited time to check mail, LJ, read, etc. How bad can life get?
Cheered self up by looking at computer price lists on the quiet. Depressed self by realising this isn't an option (not even with bread and cheese / pizza diet).
Stayed lateish at work once boss had gone, to chat (moan about computer, discuss important fandom issues, etc.). Got Chinese takeaway to bribe husband to work on PC again.
Another depressing evening because wretched kids wanted to watch television and husband dared to abandon PC problem to watch it too. They have no taste. How can anybody prefer modern chat shows when there are more interesting things to see?
Made note to self to confiscate TV guide more often. Managed to get them to bed, husband back at the PC problem, and popped in a quick episode or two. OK, three.
Husband (did I say he was wonderful?) eventually said he now knows what's wrong with the PC and will pick up new part tomorrow, so hope springs eternal.
In desperation, wrote a few pages in longhand but was very tired and haven't written anything longer than a shopping list in longhand for rather a long time.
Friday
Wonderful day, or rather now the PC is fixed. Delved deep into freezer to find prawns as reward for husband. Prawns cook quickly, which is a good thing. Can also stack dishwasher fast when I put mind to it. Go me.
Glorious evening. Got feedback on last story and felt like running around house shouting 'wheeeee'. Fiddled with website. Joined in discussion on LJ and on mailing list. Wrote a bit (can't read parts of longhand, sadly - must have been even more tired than I thought).
Think I need to spend more time on icon stuff. Must catch up on betas that are overdue, too. Shall I sign up for that challenge? Nah, maybe I should finish the (aaarghhh 8) WIPs first. Although it's a fun challenge, so, will sign up tomorrow. Must write post-it to rember that if I could find the post-it pad.
So much fandom, so little time. It's actually Saturday already, in fact. And I still wanted to work on my LJ layout and read (and check mail). Maybe just quickly, then.
Was feeling full of generosity and good humour when husband hit the sack, however, so have agreed to evening at the cinema tomorrow (his choice, so could be a little low on the eye candy). Well, I can take it. Must remember to put notebook into bag in case inspiration strikes. Could be tricky writing in the dark, but hey -
- I am a fangirl. I am invincible!
And now I have to reluctantly abandon website stuff and indeed all fannish stuff and head out to Geneva to meet mate with Child from Hell for an afternoon, before delivering them to the airport. Which is actually quite irritating as I wanted to do more on the website. Hmph.
