Adventures in Hitchhiking

I had some couchsurfers, Hannah and Jason, stay at my place Friday night. They were college students studying abroad in Kyoto. If you and your man ever make your way over here, you should! I've heard that mixed couples have an easier time getting rides than any other combination of people: something about people feeling sympathetic towards the woman but not afraid she's lost on her own.

I think you might need more like 10% so you have something to talk about with the people who pick you up. I've found that my Japanese is good enough when meeting someone new to talk about myself, my family, hobbies, etc. and ask them the same questions for about half an hour, but after that, I run out of things to say. So this kind of thing is actually perfect for being at this level, getting the chance to introduce myself over and over again. The people in my office think I'm at a much lower level than I actually am because I don't talk to them... they already know everything I could tell them.
