I'm no help on #1, but the mac should read the CD/DvD no problem. Mine does!

I see no reason why the flash drive wouldn't work. I've moved stuff from pc to mac and the other way around like that.

I don't know, she said the mac didn't even see the flash drive. Anyway, she downloaded a torrent directly on the mac and got photoshop installed. Now what is little snitch?
