Just checked on Olympics Rowing results. Matt Deakin whom I coxed our Freshman year at UW just won the US's first gold since 1964 for the Men's Eight. Go team

Man, I wish I could have seen some of those races...I love to watche rowing, but sometimes it makes me feel too sad. But big races are so exciting!

No shit. Sometimes it just tears my heart out. Especially when kids I rowed with (or even gave pointers to) are in the freakin' Olympics. The races I did see were interesting because you could really see how the different race plans were either sucessful or flailed. For example, the Canadians rowed strong at the begining, but then came in 4th over and over again as the Brits just flew in the last 250 meters. It just kept happening. But it was the Romanian women in the pairs race I watched that I was most impressed with. So beautiful! Long "slow" strokes that looked almost the same the whole race and make everyone else look choppy and desparate and they won by a wide margin.
