Fanbox = SPAM! Be wary!

So, lately I've been getting these e-mails from a site called fanbox.com, telling me that a friend of mine has a question she'd like to ask me and that I should follow their link to answer it. That's all well and good, but I know that the friend it's telling me about no longer uses the IM screenname it's telling me she's using ( Read more... )

I generally figure out scams like this pretty quickly. The ones that really bug me are the ones that take over my browser, running system-hogging Flash crap that isn't easy to shut down. Those are two headaches in one.

Yeah, it took me one visit to the website to make me go, "hmm." I hate stuff like this, which is one reason why I'm not very adventurous on what sites I use.

Well, at least this one is a little challenging to figure out . . . it convinced you to go to the website . . . there's nothing worse than being insulted by spam . . .

I seem particularly prone to getting an email from orphans stranded at sea or war refugees in Africa. Who apparently have internet access. Wouldn't that make a good advertisement for some wireless internet provider? Of course, these people always need to me become their adoptive parent -- they're wealthy orphans, you see -- or need me to help them out of the country!

I read these with mild amusement and resist the urge to reply with spelling corrections.

And you just gave me an idea for a story. Damn it!

I never get those. I get fake "Writer's Relief!" stuff. Pff. Stupid spam. At least I don't get male enhancement ads.
