I loved Empire Records, primarily because none of it makes sense and the soundtrack is great. That being said, I loved your issues with it because, yeah, they're big issues.

the music is really good. and i know the owner had a special relationship with the thief, some sort of bond, but really, that weakened my argument, so why bring it up?

I love Empire Records, but I respect your opinions because they are well written and fair points. That is why I cannot respect Roger Ebert and if I were ever to meet him I'm afraid I would be forced to kick him many times in the gonads.

so many people had good things to say about the movie before i watched it, so i was kind of surprised at how much i didn't like it. maybe it is me. maybe i was in a bad mood or just being overly critical.

and poor roger ebert.

I think for a lot of people it's a nostalgia thing. People our age would have first saw it probably in early puberty, when we were impressionable and mentally vunerable. I know I make a lot of allowances for movies I saw as a kid just based on the nostalgia factor. It probably just got overhyped for you and you were expecting more from it.

Do not cry for Roger Ebert - he deserves whatever he gets.

yeah, that happens with the big lebowski and other 'quoteable' movies; they get built up, then can't live up to the hype. though i do think the big lebowski is one of the greatest movies of all time.
