Checking in from Chicago TARDIS - Friday

Good morni - oh bother.

(and yes, before you ask parrot_knight, I forgot to add that I did indeed meet robshearman, and also renn, and rarelylynne and her husband.)

Torchwood Babiez (tw_babiez) panel was hysterically funny, thanks in part to agarrison1 and calapine for throwing crazy questions in to the panelists.

I looked in briefly on "Fanfic Writers Unite!" after a quick recce of the dealers' room with prof_pangaeaRead more... )

It's ages since I've been to a British convention, but remember it being full of people with limited conversation, and lots of people who had known each other for years and were in cliques. From what I read of American conventions, they always seem more open and friendly. British conventions tend not to have thematic panels, either, being more focused on guests; though the pubcons at the Lass O'Gowrie, concentrating more on profan initiatives like the books and Big Finish, look enjoyable.

Make no mistake, American cons have their own share of cliques, people who've known each other for years, and social maladepts. I've never been to a UK con, but knowing the general differences between the US and UK cultures of interpersonal interaction, I don't doubt you're right. There's been a bit more focus at this particular con on the guest-list, unsurprisingly considering the guests in question: though we did have a rather interesting panel led by two of the Big Finish bigwigs, plus India Fisher, talking about the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of what Big Finish has done, is doing, and is about to do (apparently they're moving into audio-plays based upon the Sherlock Holmes canon, though not, I believe, on any one story).

I believe its the Sherlock Holmes canon as mediated by decades of stage and screen adaptations, too. The third release will be a new production of a Brian Clemens script, which I think is called Hands of the Ripper.

There's actually a convention in Oxfordshire in May, run by the Fantom Films people; they've booked Heythrop Park Hotel (formerly a Roman Catholic seminary) for a weekend, though they haven't announced any of their guests yet.

Sounds like so much fun! Thanks for the update, as I live it vicariously through you. (and notusachan and neadods.)

poor Paul had legged it from the "ravening lionesses of the Serengeti". Poor baby. *snicker* It must be such a burden, being adored.

Hee, I'm actually commenting here from the lobby in the presence of mertondingle, hobbit_feets, and notusachan and one other whose LJ name I haven't yet caught - three of us are cosplaying Eight, so there's the predictable Caerdroia gags going on.

Well, there was one random congoer who seemed to be rather less respectful of personal space than some of the rest, so that was somewhat disturbing.

Sounds like fun. I really do have to make it out to a ChicagoTARDIS one of these years.
