Here are some I shop at:
Pearl art suupply
225 w Chicago ave.

Blick Art Materials
1574 n Kingsbury st.

Genesis Art supplies
2417 n Western ave.
www.artsupply.com

I think Utrecht is just ridiculous with their prices besides the whole parking issue.

Thanks! Genesis looks like it might be a little closer to me than Dick Blick.

Is there anywhere to park by Pearl? I don't remember there being anything...But it was such a long time ago that I went there.

If you go right when Pearl opens you will be able to find metered parking because a lot of the streets in that area are no parking until after rush hour. I definitely wouldn't go later in the day. The bonus is that there is a Paper Source across the street!

Its right off the brownline Chicago stop. I used to run the craft department there. Beware though they can't keep stuff in stock all that well. Not sure about parking I always took the El and Greg parked on the street.

Somewhere there is a Paper Source- it's right next to an El track and it's in an old three-story building.. ?? and then there is a good store right across the street, big and with a lot of stuff.... it might be Pearl?? Anyway... I went to both last time I was there and both are nice.

hey there! I went to Paper Source a long time ago and it was like being in a candy store. I just went to their web site to get the address and they've added another store that is actually only 2 miles from my house. uhoh...

Utrecht kills Dick Blick! But I have city art supply snobbery. Now that I live in the 'burbs I actually go to Michaels in an emergency.

That sucks that you have to go to Michaels! I hate that place. I worked back in the frame shop back in the day. But at least you have that as an option close by.

I think that's what the one I went to today will be- only for emergencies.

I might have some dick blick store coupons. I always see them in a magazine I get and them am disappointed when it is for the store, not online.

hey amber, so I haven't seen this documentary yet, but really, really want to as it's about being an artist and a mother/wife. The choices involved in that, etc.

thought you'd find it interesting too.

Thank you for sending me that link, that is an amazing documentary, I need to see it. I found the Mormon artist with 5 kids utterly fascinating!

I knew you'd be interested!

I was thinking that one day in the future, you and I should do a collab- on the juggling act of mom/artist.

I found her fascinating too. The kids on the sculptures look like they are gobbling her up. :)

lake view art supply does have a poor selection. i go to dick blick on kingsbury. it's by north, sheffield and clybourn by old navy and whole foods. there is a parking lot. i haven't been to utrecht in years. when i really want a treat i go up to good's of evanston which is on main street, i think. i haven't been to genesis in a while either, although it's closer to me. i was never impressed with pearl.

thanks for the tips gerri. I remember going to Good's in Evanston back in the day. Except I never bought anything because I didn't have any money. So I would just fondle the art supplies.

I've been to that whole foods- i'll check it out. Thanks!
