You know what you should buy, is Shirley by Charlotte Brontë. If not, how about Shirley by Charlotte Brontë?

I was thinking instead I might try Shirley? You know, by Charlotte Brontë?

I'm definitely not going to buy The Professor, though. I couldn't even read the first two pages online without losing interest.

I have NOT READ SHIRLEY OMFG

OMFG

did just read a pretty good book of Bronte litcrit which suggests the main reason Shirley is so unreadable

Aw, it's a bad one?

is Charlotte was trying to write like Thackeray

I've actually never read any Thackeray, though pfeffernuesse got me interested in at least watching the film version of The Luck of Barry Lyndon someday. I'm guessing his prose is more Victorian and fussy than Charlotte's?

Am DYING to know what you think of the last 3 -- never read Rosemary's Baby, but I really like Bladerunner and Falcon.

Oh, no, they're just the DVDs - though I've wanted to read the print version of The Maltese Falcon ever since I bought The Collected Dorothy Parker (the 1941 film I love, obviously; I want a Wilmer of my very own). I only saw 'Rosemary's Baby' the once and I thought it was wonderful, so I hope it holds up now I'm (ha) so much more sophisticated (reading Jane Eyre finally has gone right to my head, I swear ( ... )

The novel is apparently what made 'Shirley' a popular girls' name, actually. Before, it was strictly for the menfolk.
