Today I obtained a Social Security Number. Now the American Government can track all the money I earn, the places I go and the jobs I apply for. This sort of creeps me out, but the upside is worth it. I'm now actually legal to work here. Last year I filed, mistakenly mind you, a faulty tax return and the IRS has been hounding me since the spring.
