Merry Belated Christmas to All!

Dec 30, 2006 03:44

Christmas was ok. I got to see my Dad's family and visit my mom. I'm doing a list of cuts so you can pick and choose what you'd like to read. The total entry itself isn't very long despite the multitude of topics.

We got to my aunt's in the evening; listened to some music, talked, etc. Basically had a normal and relatively fun time. About 9:30ish we left and Dad brought me over to Mom's. Mom and I stayed up kinda late, of all things listening to choirs on TV and even playing some Star Fox 64. LOL She never did get the hang of the controls, but it was hillarlious that she of all people would play a game with me. Unfortunately I misplaced my Mario Kart 64 so we couldn't play that. :(Which is vastly simpler to explain the controls to imho.
I gave Mom her present, some popcorn balls and some socks, which is what she requested, though she said my being there was present enough.

Mom went to bed and I played a little bit of Majora's Mask before hitting the sack myself.
The next day things were pretty slow early on. Not much on TV, she only gets a couple channels really well since she doesn't have cable. We had a light breakfast and eventually Molly and Mike arrived. Visiting went on for a bit. Calysta tried her first popcorn ball. We have this candy factory/store here that makes the BEST popcorn balls. Among other tasty treats. If you're in Waupaca you should stop at Bowlby's. Though the popcorn balls are only a Christmas event.

Dinner got going a bit late, there were mixed veggies, chicken, mixed rice and raspberry jello. Mom and I came up with the menu so that it was something quick and simple. Turned out to be a success. :) We watched A Muppet Christmas Carol, played around with Calysta a bit. And we got our cards. Mine was really sappy, I loved it. Weird, but it was one of those where the wording is just right. If there's interest I'll type it up for you guys. Hard to believe it's been 1 year since this whole process I've been working on started... Anyway, besides the card I got $30. Not much, and it probably hit Mom more financially then she would ever admit, so it's very much appreciated all the same.
Then Molly left. Mom offerred to bring me into Kimberly to my aunt's, and when Dad called to ask what I wanted to do I told him Mom would bring me over.

Mom dropped me off, got my stuff back into Dad's car. Danny came out,, on his way over to his car to go to his gf's, so he got to see Mom, and Uncle Ed went out and said hi to her too. Which was cool.

Things had pretty much wound down so Dad was pretty ready to leave already. Which was more or less alright with me since I had work the next day.

We got home and I gave Dad his present, which he'd pretty much guessed. It was a DVD set of his fav western movie, Silverado. He gave me cash. A few hundred actually. He's a terrible shopper and he gave Sis a fair bit for Christmas so he wanted to make things even between us. Though like Mom he made me promise to do something fun with it. I put most in the bank and bought some new colored pencils with part of it. Only about $5. :P

And that was Christmas. Nothing to glitzy, but an overall nice couple of days.

So, I was on the cheese line for those 3 days. Yano those cardboard sleeves that are around those smallish plastic containers? Well it turns out those aren't done by automation. Yep, people do them. Day 4, Tuesday the 26th, was Kraft Crumbles, Feta cheese. I really didn't like those sleeves, tricky to open and the tub didn't want to slide in very easily. I estimate I only did about 636 units that day.

Day 5 was J.L.Kraft, spreadable Feta chease and Spinach. Yuck. ;p
Those sleeves were SO EASY! I went through 6 whole batches of sleeves that day. I'd estimate I did at least 1600 units. And I bruised my hand along the base of my right index finger.

Day 6, I had a near-death scare. More on that in it's own cut though. The order of the day was 6 skifs of the crumbles and 2 of the spreadables. We got done early, about 3ish, and we were done. My hand was still sore, but today it's feeling much better.

So it was Day 6 of work. I woke to a light snowstorm. Great, you know? I love the snow. The roads though were rather slick. Hwy 54 to work was pretty treacherous but things were ok until I turned off onto the road that goes to Manawa. Partway down the way the road started to drive the car, I tried easing on the gas and leveling out the steerage, but it didn't work and I soon found myself flipped around 180 degrees sliding toward the road's edge. I went over and down the 7-8 ft hill to the field below. The car tilted a bit like it wanted to tip over, but it didn't. Not sure if my moving inside helped or not. I figure the tire pattern probably looked something like this, but I don't know for sure, just how it felt..

I immediately got out of the car and walked around looking for damage and I let the guy who had been behind me and stopped know that I was alright. We talked a bit and agreed I should be able to make it back onto the road by driving down a bit and where the incline wasn't so steep. Which worked, except that I then slid partway down the ditch on the OTHER side of the road! I stopped just as the front tires went down the slope, and threw it into reverse and righted myself. I was grateful to see an on-coming semi truck stop and wait for me to get unstuck.

Once I got into Manawa I also slid across/past my turn down Howard st. I even started stopping early and still slid about 8 feet beyond the street. I righted myself and made it to work on relative time.

Yes, I had the car in 4-wheel drive this whole time that this crap happened. I thought 4-wheel was supposed to HELP!

I've got a total of 3 going out and I've actually recieved 1 this year. Thanks lilblueunicorn!

I'm a bit disappointed not more people wanted them this year. Normally I'd just send a bunch out but I seem to have misplaced the file where I kept everyone's address info. I know I should have about half a dozen or so addies to send cards to otherwise.
Anyway, I'm looking to send them out either tomorrow/today, or Monday hopefully. If not by then it might be next Friday because I just get too damn drained at work to do anything, plus by the time I get home I don't have much time before the post office closes.

Delphinbella, I'm sending you a wedding present as well. I finally found a box for it and wrapped it up tight.

And now I leave you with some meme-age.

Also, Saddam Hussein is dead. He was executed last night at about 9:30 Central time. He was hung, refused a hood and held a copy of the Koran in his hands. It's about time he was gone, but it's kind of surreal, yano?

That's about it for now. Glad to see that everyone had a pretty good Christmas.
