The books I read every year to see how I've changed are 1984 and Catcher in the Rye, but I've been doing that for almost ten years.

1984 is definitely still a good read for an adult, not so sure about Catcher in the Rye.

If you have any sort of strong feelings about education, you should check out anything by Jonathan Kozol.

Michael recommends (and I second) Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgeman. Lots of funny psuedoscientific facts.

I recently finished the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Swords and sorcery, and the sort of junk that I like. It's got its fair share of extra filler crap, and it's one of those "everything falls in place at the end" stories, but it wasn't so bad. ^_^
