I was a street skater. Never got much into the pipes or pools, i loved skating hard and fast in the street over stairs and sidewalks and the fast paced mexican streets. Have you seen the "Beyond the Glory" show about Tony Hawk? You should check out!
No, I haven't seen "Beyond the Glory". Something on T.V.? I don't watch T.V., but I've definitely followed everything that guy's done on video since the early '80s. He's amazing.
That Ray Barbee interview was funny; is it just me, or was he kinda not real smart? Anyway, he's one of those guys I wonder if kids these days have any idea about. So many great skaters are lost amidst the hype now. It's good to see guys like the Dogtown crew get their due (despite the fact some of those older dudes were complete assholes), it's just, does anybody even remember a guy like Tom Groholski? How 'bout Chris Sims? Jason Lee? Oh wait, yeah, people still remember Jason Lee. But did they know how much he ruled?
FWIW, I still have some old skate stickers somewhere, including the Ray Barbee stuffed doll playing card one, I think his first sticker. Heck, I even have some of the original "Skateboarding is not a crime." stickers, maybe even about 10 of them.
But hey, do you know a skater named Marc/Marcus Bandy? He was managing a shop over in Costa Mesa for a while, he's one of my old-time friends from back in the day.
Hmm.... Might not be just you. I took out a lot of "um"s & "like"s, but maybe he's just not super-articulate, & it may have been his first interview & he seemed kinda nervous. I dunno
( ... )
Hey, I noticed you added me :O) Thanks, I am adding you back. You live right by where I used to live (Newps).. I hope that you are having a great day and week thus far. Talk to you later.
Hi Brian. Those are cool skateboard pix. I used to skate awhile back. There was a cement spillway from a old body of water that was near my parent's house about 15 years ago. I used to go there as a teenager with neighborhood kids. It was a really cool place. Songbirdish
