A victory for WBC?

When entire governments cower in fear of your coming to town, how is it seen as any less then a victory?

Anyone who knows the Westboro Baptist Church, knows they revel in protesting at funerals of the most innocent of people, as they are rewarded by the media with undue attention for their controversial boorish pickets. Always happy to taut to ( Read more... )

I wouldn't say that fanatics don't change their mind, otherwise there'd never be cult escapees telling their tales.

But yes, this news is horrid all around.

Arizona legislature aside, there is already a plan for volunteers to wear big paper "angel wings" and form a picket so that if the family looks in their direction, all they will see is people dressed as angels.

I kind of thought that it was a defeat for them, in that so many people of different beliefs had gotten together to form a 'shield' between the protesters and the funeral.

That part may be a defeat for them, yes, but the fact a state legislature has to take time to specifically craft a law to attempt to bar this one, tiny cultist group from protesting is a win for them. It gives them the impression that they and their message is important enough that entire governments have to try and stop them.

Of course, we can take the high road instead and just wait until one of the church passes on, and then everyone in western civilization comes down on THEIR funeral with signs and horns and loud music. it'll be like Woodstock :)

Being the more hands on sort, a single car should follow them until they get gas. Then the activists puncture two tires on one side of their van and then speed off. This endangers nobody and makes the asshats late to the funeral, particularly if a phone call is made to that gas station about whose tires need fixed slowly.

Sadly all that would do is feed their persecution complex and not deter them from attempting to picket again.

Wow, I had no idea that was going down. I think you're spot on. I don't think this church needs to have any more attention from the media or from the government. It seems to be what's driving them. Ugh.
