Janie has learned alot through this book. We have seen her grow from a youg lady to a woman. She learned that you can live a happy properose life and still not be content. she even laered that you can have a husband that whats o you hand and foot but still not be happy. She's also learned that haveing fun with a person does not mean it wiil be fun forever.

I THINK THAT THIS STATEMENT IS EXACTLY TRUE B/C JANIE HAS GROWN A LOT SHE HAS LEARNED THAT THERE ARE GOOD MEN OUT IN THE WORLD TODAY AND THAT SHE COULD BE TREATED AS A QUEEN AND LIFTED UPON THE PEDISTAL LIKE SHE SHOULD BE.

I think that Janie has learned a lot.She was not that smart in the beggining of the book. She let her grandmother and a man take control of her. She use to let Joe tell her what to do and how to do it.If you ask me she was in a abusive relationship.Joe use to tell her and make her feel like she couldn't do anything because she is a woman. Then she started to get smart and she found a man who really loved her after Joe died. His name was Teacake and he really cared about her.He treated her like a woman is supposed to be treated. Teacake wanted her to speak out on what she wanted to say, and her and Teacake turned out to be ok.Teacake was truly the man of her dreams. She will always know who her true husband was in her life.

yes all is done and even said but why did it take her ex- husband's death for her to realize that her marriage just wasn't working?
yeah true maybe he was downning her bit but she should have had the courage to stand up on her own behalf

I agree with Stanely in a way, but I don't think that Janie was stupid in the beginning. I think that maybe she wasn't so sure about herself and she needed someone to guide her because even though her grandma wanted what was best for her, she shouldn't have been her voice. Being sheltered and closed in can make you feel limited to being who you really are.

I do agree with the fact that she was in an abusive relaionship with Joe. It wasn't a physical or verbal it was mental abuse. Tea cake made her his equal.

Throughout Janie's life, she was sheltered and cared for by her grandmother or a man that she was always stuck with. She never got to learn about little things that some people take for granted. As she grew older, she didn't know how to really deal with the situations she was put in. After meeting Tea Cake, Janie was able to express how she really felt about something. She didn't have to hold her tongue because of what anyone said. So, she grew to be more confident, when as before she was reserved and quiet. She became more of a woman and she felt good about herself because it was a feeling she never had before. Also, when Tea Cake would tell her how he liked her and how he wanted to wear this color or that, it made her feel special and wanted and that changed her view as seeing herself more alive and beautiful.

Janie has went through the more changes then any charater I have ever read about. She went from a little girl not knowing what love was, to a woman who dispised love, and then a woman who loved to love and being loved. I feel that even when Janie was a little girl she was different from most. She didn't like for herself to be treated like a helpless woman, and that's how most men made women feel back in those days. I don't think she was unhappy with Logan Killicks simply because her nanny made her marry him, or unhappy with Joe Starks because he made her stand up in a store all day. She was unhappy with them because they didn't treat her like an equal. Tea Cake is the only one who did this. He sat and talked to her and was really concerned with what was in her mind. He even taught her how to play checkers, and for this she begun to love him. I feel Tea Cake had the most positive effect on Janie. When he came to her she felt like she was to old for someone like him to love her, but Tea Cake taught her that she was as young as she felt ( ... )
