I think she was saying that the only person we can rely on is God and other than that we cannot rely on other human beings. We have to learn to be independent and self reliant.

This means that when it's all said and done in the end you have to be accoutable for yourself and that in the end when it is all over no one is going to be there for you at the end. You have to be responsible for your own actions. When you do something and say you get in trouble for it no one else goes down with you. You go down by your self no one else, and it's going to be like that in the end when you get judged it's going to be you by your self. You have to find out about life by yourself know one is going to tell you everything. They give you enough information just to get by. I think that the reason people don't tell you everything about life is because they don't know everything about life. Life has it's twists and turns and just like when my parents grew up things were different then they are now but they still try to tell you things that you have to find out for yourself.

I agree with this comment also because I think that people always try to balme their downfalls on other people. But sometimes you just have to realize that everything you do is your fault and try to work on your downfalls instead of making excuses

i think that she is basically stating that what ever you do you Are accountable for, whether it be good or bad. and You have to face the consequences for your actions.

I think that this is a profound statement that was made by Janie. What I get from the statement that everbody must go to the Lord is that usually when people turn to the Lord they have tried to do things for themselves and relaize that they need help. I think that going to the Lord is a sign of maturity because you come to realize that you cant do everything for yourself and that you need help. I believe Janie's other statement that people got to find about livin for themselves because in the beginning Janie was only doing what her grandmother told her and if she would've stuck with what her grandmother said she would've been in a horrible marriage with a horrible husband. But instead she went out on her own and did her own thing and by doing what she wanted she was able to find true love.

Continuing on what I was saying earlier, We only have ourselves to blame in this world so we cannot rely on other people to take or make our decisions for us.
God is there to guide us in the right direction so we have to listen to what he tells us and run with it. Besides I think each one of us is embedded with a natural decision making mechanism that puts us on the right track. This helps us go through life with minimum catastrophies

I think that Gerard is absolutely correct because I guess Janie was saying that because she had just realized she would have to get to know god for herself from what her granny used to tell her.
