um yeah what's wrong with sounding like Sade? and i'm sorry, i don't even put slow Janet Jackson songs near that level...

I put zero Janet Jackson songs near that level. Sade is on her own island, there's nobody like her. Nobody can pull the disappearing act she does, then she sweeps back when she's ready, slays everybody with her music and coolness, then buh-bye for another 8 years ( ... )

the visual of Janet Jackson trying to sing "Is It A Crime?" made me LOL.

she probably has a valid point though... i remember talking with a singer who had had a minor R&B hit and was working on her second album, and was feeling the push to make, as she put it, "new age" music from her record company. i guess the fear for a lot of female singers is that they wind up doing some sort of "smooth jazz" once they're no longer relevant. which i disagree with... i'm as impressed with a singer coming out doing smooth laidback stuff from the start as i am with one who is doing "dance"-able music.

but i digress, and i've always found Janet Jackson lame even if i can't say that around many of my friends...

I have found her appealing for like 5 minutes in the past 25 years. She really can't sing, and if she doesn't have Jam & Lewis making her sound good, what's left? Oh right, all the (in the words of Michael Kors on this season's Project Runway...hope you saw that, because I can just see his face saying it as I type it) *slutty, slutty, slutty* stuff she's doing now. So desperate. Just quit already!

She doesn't have the voice to be the next Sade. She just needs to cut the S&M stuff back a little bit and stop trying to act like she's 20 years old.

Maybe I am reading it different way, but she is saying that they want her to be like Sade, but she can't be like Sade... they are just two different types of music and that isn't the kind of music she wants to do... you make it sound like she dissed Sade or something.

I don't make it sound like that, that's what it is. It's right there, in both paragraphs, she's implying that Sade is old and boring. She WISHES she could have that level of sophistication.

I love Janet a whole lot.Its all about control apparently, and apparently shes got lots of it.

I also love Sade.Neither of them can sing worth a dime, but both have carved out their own peculiar niche and nobody does funky like Janet.Any record company who tries to make her do otherwise is foolish.

What the hell do you think Sade does all day?

What the hell do you think Sade does all day?

Drives recklessly and argues with the cops about it?

(Don't take this the wrong way, of course. I loves me some Sade.)

I can't find the quote, but I remember Lenny Kravitz (who knows her) saying that Sade's private life is just like her music. Which I find quite intriguing.
