So yesterday I went to Atlanta to see U2. Apparently this is a big deal to other people because I keep getting asked how the show was and what it was like. It was pretty great, which is definitely an understatement. I have at least one reader of this LJ who hates U2, so I know that he will think this is a stupid post, and there are probably

I hope Thanksgiving with the family tastes like freedom.

U2 is so popular that people don't want to like them because it’s uncool to like super popular bands, but they still can't help liking them. That’s how cool U2 is.
Here's a tip for dealing with your family. I don't know if it works because I haven't yet been able to master the technique myself. Try to ignore the hard headed things they say and believe that drive you to the point of throwing it in their face with dramatic statements, and instead try to affirm the good elements and ask questions about what they are passionate about in a way that might lead to them actually thinking out their views more thoughtfully. I find that many people hold positions so strongly because they don't feel confident enough to hold them weakly. But if they are given the freedom to explore their own views without fear they end up with different conclusions than they have so unshakably held to before. I actually haven't found that, it’s just a theory I have. Best of luck to you.

I love U2. I would marry Bono if I had a uterus. But I don't, so I will love him from afar. And I love U2 because they are so popular. Their popularity allows them to do amazing things, both musically and socially. Damien Rice is trying to do the whole political thing in Burma, but it's not nearly as successful because he's not as successful musically. But U2 keeps it real.
And I love the edge too. I played on a Line 6, which I don't really endorse, but was cool, and it had an edge effect. I turned that thing up so loud and played for hours. Damn, those were the days.

George - I agree about U2. Regarding your tip, that approach to relationships and family is far too sensible to be something that I would consider.
Clint - You are a liar and anyone who reads your LJ knows it. I do not know what “broseph” means.
