I rented and watched "Just Friends" today.
It was a decent enough movie, though the protagonist was too much of an asshole for me to like all that much. It had the woman from Airplane! That amused me muchly.
However, the best part of the movie was the Special Features because they're just a blast. And so true.
“If you feel yourself going, there, walk away.”
I went to school with a guy who was a really close friend. We hung out constantly.
Yeah, I was a friend of a good friend, and always the potential that it could go somewhere.
It’s not something that you can easily get out of.
And you allow yourself to just be the friend guy.
Especially dudes have all known a girl that they know that if they try to move it forward, and it fails, you can never go back.
And you hope that one day she’s gonna come around, she’s gonna wake up and realize, “You know what? I’ve dated all these idiots. You’re the guy for me.” You know, and you just pray that that day comes. And you know what? Most of the time, it’s not coming.
So you just sit and scratch your head and try to figure out how it happened in the first place.
The Warning Signs
“Oh, he’s such a sweet guy. That’s the worst, sweet.”
“It’s when someone thinks you’re just so cute.”
“Because she thought that we were just friends, she always invited people along for dinner. And they make it fun. And it’s not going to go there.”
“Met this girl in the tenth grade… her name was Yael. I was just taken with her - literally taken. I remember this moment where she talked about how - this crush she had on this other guy. And she came to me for advice.”
”You’d be the guy, the wingman that she’d come over for, for advice. It’s like being a wingman, but for a girl. It’s completely counterproductive.”
”Yeah, try headbutting a wall for about four or five years.”
Just friends. Just friends for life.
