Vegas, the Food Experience. Who Knew?

We just got back from Vegas last night. I can't believe how big Caesar's has gotten. I think it covers a square mile now. It is so over the top there now. We stayed at Bally's. The room was nothing to write home about (though the upgrade in the new tower is much better, but we didn't do it this time). It's a great location, at the very least ( Read more... )

A friend and I went to Olives in June.

Assorted breads with olive purees: Excellent. Yeah, it's probably very 2001 or something, but I thought both of the spreads (I liked the green olives better) were amazing with a variety of fresh breadery.

Appetizer: I had seared foie gras and a barbequed duck cube, with some homemade fig marmalade and toast points. It was excellent, if a little overrich.

Main course: I had the swordfish w/lobster beurre blanc. The swordfish was huge, and actually pretty good, but the smoked potatoes had been ridiculously oversmoked (I actually think it might have been a mistake/error/burning). So the predominant flavor was smoke and I was only OK with this dish.

I'd return, but I'd be happy to try something different next time.

If Wendy really likes a good quiche (or just an all around excellent breakfast), you guys should try Tre Kronor just east of Kimball on Foster. http://www.swedishbistro.com/

Their sweet pepper and brie quiche is probably one of the better things I've ever eaten for breakfast, although they only have quiches on weekends (usually 2) and they rotate so they won't always be serving it.

We have eaten there a few times. I think we kind of gave up on breakfasts there awhile back because it's always so crowded for that. Getting dinner there is usually easier.

As I said, I gave away $200 at blackjack. And yes, Vegas is a great place to go to eat. How many other places have that many critically acclaimed restaurants in one area, without the NYC reservation hassle? As for the whores, I saw one out on the strip that asked if we knew you. You know, the Scrabble celebrity thing does have people on the street asking me all kinds of crazy questions, and I have to say that one was one of the strangest questions I have heard to this day.
