I'm proud of myself. I was assertive today. I had a bad feeling about my new co-worker at the cafe from the first time he worked with us a few weeks ago -- just too smarmy, outgoing in a creepy way. He consistently stands a little too close and is too friendly. He's married, but that doesn't reduce the creep vibe one bit

Maybe your other Israeli friends have been in the states longer and are more familiar with American sensitivities about personal space? Because I would agree that Israelis don't have the same conceptions about touching, they are even more touchy than Europeans. You may have just given him his first lesson on American culture.

Sometimes you come across a sleazy Jewish man. It happens. In the face of female strength, they will falter and defer to your wisdom, so just keep being assertive.
