♛ Two; | My Flower Withered Between the Pages Two and Three

A lot of people didn't believe me when I said 'What a piece of work is man' was better than 'to be or not to be'. And since 140 characters is a little short to argue Shakespeare, I'm putting it up here so you can see for yourselves:

I have of late--but wherefore I know not--
lost all my mirth, forgone all
custom of exercises; and indeed it goes so heavily
with my disposition that this goodly frame, the
earth, seems to me a sterile promontory, this most
excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave
o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted
with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to
me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours.
What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason!
how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how
express and admirable! in action how like an angel!
in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the
world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me,
what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not
me...

No, nor woman neither, though by your smiling
you seem to say so.

Hamlet, Act II, scene ii

---

And I think I got all the line breaks right.

Now compare that to when Hamlet's moping around trying to decide whether or not he should off himself. It's one thing to be misanthropic, and it's another to be self-important. Hamlet's self-important, rather like certain 'philosophers' I've been hearing from lately. The other speech is just more famous is all. Probably because it shows up in children's cartoons all the time, which really proves it's a joke.

I suppose it's the self-importance that offends me. Funny how that ended up being the argument I got into on Twitter anyway. 'To be or not to be' and then whine about it a bit and pretend to be philosophical about it all. Kill yourself or don't, Hamlet.

And to think that I call that my favourite of the plays. I suppose it is, but only after Hamlet grows a bit of a backbone. Kill your uncle or don't, Hamlet.

I'd rather like to kill mine at the moment since he's refusing to give me an advance on my allowance.

Is anything going on this weekend? Anything interesting, I mean? I'm not going to be studying on a Saturday night and it's never too soon to plan.

Also, someone remind me to make my Twitter friends-only, please. Instructors--sorry, professors--seem to like hassling me there. I'd like to leave that to the classroom only, thanks.
