One of my friends lived in Cairo for a year, she said the smog got really grim. And watching ambulances trying to fit through traffic apparently, though hopefully you don't get to do that on Holiday ! Now trying to find a picture of TutanPenguin for you...

took me a moment to realize what a "tout" is - I am wondering if you experienced being harassed by men, when alone. I've been told it can be pretty nasty for a solo woman in parts of northern Africa and Near East (mens' come-on's, being very rude/suggestive, etc)

I was trying to do the 'not engaging eye contact' thing, and I wore a headscarf constantly (mostly because I didn't think that Egypt was ready for my pink hair!), but I think they just saw a tourist, regardless of sex. They hassled Ian just as much.
