CHARACTER

✧ NAME: Roxas
✧ SERIES: Kingdom Hearts
✧ HISTORY: I chose to link a fan shrine as opposed to a wiki, because the information at the shrine is at a higher quality than what is found at the wiki. However, if you prefer, Roxas's wiki page is here.
Roxas-centric summary of Days | Day 358 | His Last Week | Roxas's involvement with the Organization | Roxas's relationship with Sora | Does Roxas have a heart?
The only adjustment I have to make is that I am not going to say for sure whether or not Roxas has a heart, unlike the owner of the fan shrine. I'm going to do my best to keep it ambiguous about that in order to allow room for adjustments as the canon updates itself. Highlight for spoilers for Birth by Sleep: Thanks to recent information from Birth by Sleep, it's heavily theorized that Roxas does have a heart. When Sora released his and Kairi's heart in the first game, thereby creating the Nobodies Roxas and Naminé, he unknowingly released Ventus's heart, which was also residing within his own, and it is highly probable that Ven's heart stayed in Roxas, and that not only explains why Roxas can feel emotions, but also why Roxas looks identical to Ven. However, this is just a theory, and hasn't been confirmed in canon. /end spoiler

✧ TIMELINE: KH2; after returning to Sora, but before the fight with him near the end of the game.

✧ PERSONALITY:
Roxas first gives off the impression of being too serious for a kid his age. Though he sees the world in simple terms (for Roxas, it's either this or that, with little to no middle ground), he still questions everything around him, from the motives of those around him to what something is. It's not so much that he's curious and excited to learn about the world around him; he just doesn't know because he hasn't been alive for very long. When he asks a question, he expects the truth: honesty is of the utmost importance to Roxas. He doesn't understand why someone would lie, and as such, he always tells it how he sees it, making him straightforward and, at times, blunt and even tactless. He also expects people to answer him outright; sarcasm and metaphors tend to go over his head, though he's getting better at identifying them, and he thusly tends to take them literally. He's not really a detail-oriented person, for though he may see the outline of the big picture, he has a tendency to miss subtle signs. That's not to say that he isn't good at making connections, though, it just takes him a while.

Roxas is an intensely internally-driven person. He can be said that he's introspective, but it's less that he examines his own thoughts and more that he just does a lot of thinking. He takes the things that he has learned and turns them over in his mind, reaching either questions that he cannot answer himself or answers that can be difficult to correct. He is independent in that he will come to his own conclusions and never take something someone tells him for granted; it isn't necessarily that he's a skeptic, just that he cannot stop from asking questions. Once he's made up his mind, there's no changing it, and he is not only stubborn, but action-driven. He will accomplish what he's set his mind to, come hell or high water. He is confident in his abilities, and this has led to arrogance during battle. Combine these things and you have a kid who is serious and persistent, never stopping until he is satisfied with the result.

The fundamental thing to remember when interacting with Roxas is to treat him the way you expect him to treat you. If you belittle him and his friends, he will rise up and fight back. He returns friendship with devotion and loyalty, and kindness with kindness, even going as far as to go out of his way to help someone he doesn't know very well just because they helped him out a few times. He expects the same as well, for his friends to treat him like friends and for his enemies to treat him as an enemy. When people act outside of these simple boundaries, he becomes confused and even upset, depending on the circumstances.

He doesn't care what people think of him, whether they like or dislike him, but what he reacts strongly to is the way he is treated. He hates being underestimated and looked down upon. He's more than just some kid and he's not weak or stupid. It's not his fault he doesn't know something. He can quickly become defensive in situations where someone is being condescending to him. When he gets upset, he gets vocal, and whatever brain-mouth filter he has disappears, regardless of the consequences.

He has something of an inferiority complex; the suggestion that he (or any of his friends) is useless or less than anyone else will set him off, and he will not lie down and take it. He is a very firm believer in his own worth. He believes he has a right to exist, a right to know the truth, a right to be himself, a right to live -- he doesn't care what anyone else says or thinks. He may be a Nobody, but he knows what he goes through -- what he feels -- is real, and this has led to a lot of confusion about what's so great about a heart, anyway, and why they need them in the first place. If he ever loses this credo, he'll lose the foundation of who he is. Without it, he would be completely lost and melancholy with nothing else to believe in. He knows what he's capable of, but when it comes to who he is, he's not so sure. Like a lot of teenagers, he's still trying to figure out who he is, and in the end, he needs validation of those around him... especially from his friends.

His friends are the key to his happiness. In their company, he relaxes and becomes more lighthearted. He starts acting like a regular kid again, teasing and joking around and laughing with them about nothing. If he could, he would be with them forever, and if anything, that's all he really wants: to be with his friends, everyone happy... a normal life, one outside of fighting for something he doesn't know anything about and for people he, in reality, barely even knows. He's more likely to be something of a homebody, to look after the people he knows and cares about, than to go gallivanting around the universe for fun. In the end, his friends are also his ultimate weakness and downfall: they bring out the strongest 'emotions' in him because they're so close to the core of who he is. They are under his skin and in his blood, so when something goes wrong, to say it affects him deeply would be an understatement. Anyone he considers a friend can just rip him apart from the inside out. They are his true source of validation and safety; his friends are his home.

In the end, Roxas is serious, action-oriented, stubborn, loyal, and ever-questioning.

✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
Most of these abilities are based more on 358/2 Days than Kingdom Hearts II. Near the end of KH2, Roxas and Sora have a mental battle, and in the Final Mix+ version of the game, Roxas has access to abilities that he doesn't in Days. Since Roxas is being taken from before that fight in KH2, he doesn't have access to those abilities yet, and they will be set apart from the other abilities.

① Keybearer: Roxas wields a weapon called a Keyblade, which is... what it sounds like. A giant key shaped like a sword. It has the ability to lock and unlock anything. He will on default be using the Keyblade in its natural state, which is called the Kingdom Key. Whenever he is dual-wielding (see below), his Keyblades take the shape of Oathkeeper and Oblivion.

② Keychains: Roxas used to be able to change his Keyblade by way of accessories called Keychains. These not only change the shape and color of his weapon, but also the abilities of it. There are some Keychains, for example, that would transform his Keyblade into one more suited for powerful physical attacks, and others that will boost the strength of his spells. However, because he was kidnapped, all of his equipment -- including his Keychains -- was taken from him, so although it is possible for him to use them, he doesn't exactly have any. I'm including this here in case Roxas somehow winds up getting more Keychains, either from the world or other characters in one way or another.

③ Dual-Wielding: One of Roxas's signatures is his ability to wield two Keyblades at once. He is able to do this because of... well, complicated reasons. After Xion died and all of her power flowed into Roxas, this meant that he had all of half of Sora's power. Because Sora is able to dual-wield due to his special circumstances, so can Roxas. It's debatable whether Roxas's two Keyblades belong to Sora and (BbS spoiler!) Ventus (/end spoiler), or if they belong to Sora and Xion and therefore one of the Keyblades is a fake. During Roxas's last week, he couldn't dual-wield the Keyblade for most of the time, but after his memories of the Organization began to come back, he regained access to both Keyblades, and so now he can dual-wield if he so chooses.

④ Magic: Roxas was once able to use the wide array of magic available in the Kingdom Hearts universe, but after he was sent to the virtual Twilight Town, he was incapable of using it. Because his memory of his times with the Organization is slowly returning, so will his ability to use magic, but that doesn't mean that he'll gradually relearn the spells. They'll have to be given or taught to him, much in the way that Sora had to regain his spells in KH2 after having lost them due to the events in CoM.

⑤ Limit Break: When Roxas's health is dangerously low, he taps into a store of power that allows him to unleash an attack called his Limit Break. His is named Event Horizon. When he uses this ability, his Keyblade becomes one long bar of light, and he "rapidly darts around the field ... slashing away at enemies with great strength." However, Roxas can only use this skill once per day because of the amount of energy it depletes.

Abilities to be discovered/learned over time:
In order for Roxas to learn these abilities, it will require a lot of training and hard work, as these attacks are very powerful and require Roxas to be able to use his Light energy more proficiently than he is able to at the current time. Roxas can learn these attacks, but it doesn't mean that he will.

① Criss-Cross: twirl the Keyblades in a wide criss-cross circle.
② Aerial Roll: similar to Sora's Aerial Finish.
③ Enhanced Aerial Roll: Roxas uses beams of Light during Aerial Finish in order to increase his range
④ Shockwave Thrust: dash forward at a high speed using light to do so while holding a Keyblade pointed forward.
⑤ Light Flurry: summon a beams of light to act as a shield (the beams circle around him and deal damage to anything that comes close) and rise into the air, glowing with light energy. send out more light energy, revealing the realm where Keyholes are hidden. after charging up energy, summon Light Orbs and send homing light energy projectiles at the target by twirling the Keyblades.

Note: The ability Thirteen Beams is not included because it's basically Roxas's Limit Break. Duel Stance also wasn't included because of how difficult it is to translate it over into narration. It should also be noted that it has been stated and shown in canon that Roxas can do anything Sora can, so it may be possible for Roxas to learn other moves and abilities that Sora knows given time and training.

✧ TIME OF ARRIVAL: Day; more specifically, at dawn. This is a new life for Roxas, and the start of a new day works as a symbol for that.

✧ MASK DESIGN: (copyright to Renaissance pleasedon'tsueme)

Note that it's purely black, white, and silver, and follows the checkered-type pattern found on Roxas's clothing.

✧ PLACE OF SOLACE: The clock tower from Twilight Town, which is a very significant place for Roxas. This was his sanctuary, the place where he went to eat ice cream after missions with his best friend(s), and it's also the place where he had to fight and consequently kill one of them. It's also the place where Roxas shared ice cream with his friends Hayner, Pence, and Olette in the virtual Twilight Town. At the top of the tower, right above the main clockface, is a ledge where the kids would sit and goof off while they eat their sea salt ice cream.

SAMPLES

✧ FIRST PERSON:
Private diary entry: Day 366

This is day one of year two. It's weird to think like that, but now I know the truth. I'm not a human. I'm a Nobody. So I'm not as old as normal kids like Hayner, Pence, and Olette.

I wonder what they're going to think when they don't see me again. I wonder if they're going to think of me at all. The last time I saw them, they ran right through me, just like I was a ghost...

I don't know where I am, but I know I'm on another world. There's this mirror in my room that doesn't show me my reflection when I look in it. I can see Twilight Town.

And that's not all. I see Donald and Goofy, too. Sometimes I see Hayner, Pence, and Olette, if I wait long enough. It's like I'm seeing through someone else's eyes. If I am, they're probably Sora's. Does this mean this world is inside Sora's heart? I don't know.

I'm going to go out and see what I can discover. It'll be like working for the Organization again. I can remember that they would sometimes send me to explore worlds. My memories of that time are slowly coming back to me now. Maybe when I'm looking around I'll remember all the tips they taught me. Here's hoping they're good for something.

✧ THIRD PERSON:
His dreams were dominated by Sora's memories, wide swaths of them, full of color and people and worlds and emotion. He always woke up with a mind stuffed with all of these thoughts and experiences that weren't his, and it bothered him. It made him feel... not quite like himself, and that's all that he had any more, his sense of self, so when this happened, he would grab his skateboard and ride it up to the clock tower and have some ice cream.

When he felt like Sora, he did Roxas things. It made him feel right again.

But it wasn't like that when it came to his own memories. Maybe it's because Sora took over his dreams, so his own memories had to come back to him other times. It happened at random, pretty much, when something he saw or did or heard or smelled or felt triggered an old memory and it would rise out of the back of his head, stretch, and say hello. And unlike Sora's memories, which came all at once in big chunks, Roxas's returned to him in pieces. Just a bit here, a bit there, and while it was, to put it lightly, strange to suddenly realize he knew something or someone without knowing that he knew, it didn't throw him off too much most of the time.

Well, it did, but it didn't bother him like Sora's memories. He was always constantly learning about himself, and there was nothing necessarily wrong with that.

What did bother him about the whole thing... was that he felt like he was missing something. Sometimes the memories that came back weren't complete, like he'd forgotten how part of it went and he couldn't do anything to remember it. It was like he had forgotten something, and sometimes it felt as if it was something important, but he could not for the life of him figure out what. He supposed he would never know, but it frustrated him that there wasn't anything he could do about it. He hated not being able to do something, especially when he felt like he should. So it was okay, but it wasn't, not really.

He tried not to think about it too much.
