I'm kept up late tonight from a newfound sense of poorness. I've always saved well beyond my means, but since I've gained a mortgage, my budget is a lot tighter than it use to be, which, compounded with the state of the economy and oil seems to have summed up at the perfect time to keep me in good company

Ah, we're all broke. But as long as your having fun, healthy (or at least taking narcotics for it) and have friends... can you complain too much?

Beware your impending 25th, by the by. Some people apparently have no problem with it. I'm still digesting, and I don't know that it's sitting well.

I appreciate the optimism. Yeah, one of my friends wrote in a card (You're a 1/4 of a 100 years old!). Dude, we're not in our early 20's anymore! Time to start buying face cream and getting botox.

I think most people our age are seriously in debt, like credit-card debt. Low-interest debt like mortgages and student loans aren't a big deal. The fact that you have anything left over at the end of the month means that you are doing better than most. That is what you saved your money for right? An emergency like a sudden job loss or recession.

We are feeling the price of food and gas here too. Like you, we aren't putting as much away at the end of the month and we are scaling back the fun stuff...

Yeah, the fun stuff is now like the thermostat: we had a lot of fun at 73 degrees, but now we're grownups, there's a lot we've learned and 78 degrees is practical.

I'm happy with the house, it's like student loans- a good debt. I've just always prided myself on my cheapness. (Did that come out right?) So now I'm not quite so talented, because there are so many ways you have to make sure this place doesn't burn down, get eaten by flying ants, or swallowed by sun's gravitational pull on the Earth. It's coming together. Just write the checks and take up fasting.
