ooc; Calling all informants!

So, as we all know, I've been forced talked into doing the TARDIS' views on the Doctor's harem companions. Unfortunately, I am not completely knowledgeable of all those who have travelled with him, as I've not seen all of Classic Who (I'm working on it, though!) A few of you expressed interest in helping me fill in the gaps for some of these ( Read more... )

God, Zoe is one of my favorite companions. She talks to computers using an algoritmic language (in the Invasion), though she never seems to talk to the TARDIS. She does work with the TARDIS, reading numbers and pulling switches and such. She's an immensely clever girl, if not always the brightest.

She relates to the Doctor as one might a very eccentric uncle. She fancies Jamie, but everybody does so that's okay. When they land in new places, she sort of sighs, makes a comment about never landing where they plan (they almost never do and at one point took a rocket to the moon because the TARDIS wouldn't make such a short hop), and then goes "Oh, stop complaining, Jamie!" and then bounds forward. In the Mind Robber the Master of the Land of Fiction put an image of her home world on the scanner which made her defy the Doctor and leave the TARDIS without permission, which is really the only time I can think she defied the Doctor in regards to the TARDIS ( ... )

This is seriously awesomely helpful, thank you so much! It's exactly what I was looking for. (And also makes me want more Two serials like woah ; ; I'm familiar with Jamie because of The Two Doctors and discussing him with others, but sadly no one else.)

...I also sporfled at the 2000 bit. Oh Doctor Who.

Jamie is the best. He's just so fun.

The Mind Robber is my favorite Two serial. It's Zoe, Jamie, and a whole lot of fictional characters! Though, it's impossible to beat out this line in the Invasion for the best-line-of-all-time award.

Jamie: Doctor.
Doctor: Yes, Jamie?
Jamie: What happens if the lift starts working before we get to the top [of the shaft]?
Doctor: Oh, well, that's easy, Jamie. We get squashed. Come along.

I've heard such good things about The Mind Robber and I really need to get my grubby paws on it.

Ohgosh, I think I just scared a co-worker reading that exchange. What is it with people making me die of laughter at work today? (Which is totally a good thing, mind.)

Liz Shaw rude_not_ginger August 6 2008, 19:22:56 UTC

Right, so I have to admit Liz was companion during my least favorite series of the entire show, but I did think she was great and I loved her spinoff-that-was-not-a-spinoff P.R.O.B.E..

Right, Liz is the brilliant scientist. She's the Doctor's equal in intelligence but that also makes her a touch cocky, aloof, and egotistical. So, she's really quite a match for the Doctor IMHO and I always thought they'd be great together. Really, though, Liz always seemed to interact with him like he's a rival coworker (HOT, IM JUST SAYIN).

The TARDIS was non-functioning during their time together, though she did help take the console out of the main room and work on repairing her. I think the TARDIS was a rather big science project to Liz, but she never really pressed any sort of emotion to ship.

They never traveled in time or space. Though the Doctor did travel between dimensions and find a Liz with very very bad hair.

Liz is probably my favourite human companion, and highly underrated, so I feel compelled to add a link to this. It doesn't really mention her relationship with the TARDIS, though.

She generally does consider the TARDIS as a big science project. The idea of the ship being sentient simply didn't occur, but she helped the Doctor with his work because it was interesting, and she actually rather liked him (even if he did steal her job).

Victoria "Leatherlungs" Waterfield rude_not_ginger August 6 2008, 19:30:56 UTC

There are no compilation videos of Victoria. Friggin' tragic. SOMEONE FIX THIS.

A lot of Victoria's serials don't exist anymore, which is tragic, really. She's a fun companion, if really ditsy and a screamer. She's from the past (and the last companion from the past, I think) and she spends a good deal of her time running around in skirts that she thinks are ridiculously short (though not as ridiculous, she says, as Jamie's). She screams a lot, earning her the nickname from the crew of "leatherlungs".

She sees the Doctor as an uncle-sort. She's much more interested in Jamie. Traveling is more like a long holiday and the Doctor hasn't realized she's supposed to be home and knitting something terribly important.

In the episodes I saw, she never interacted with the TARDIS as anything more than the ship, I think. I must admit, I've only seen what's been broadcast of her episodes, which isn't a lot.

As for Ben, Polly, Steven, Katarina, and Dodo, it's been too long since I've seen their episodes to tell you. I've got a Ben/Polly one lined up for later tonight with the spouse, I'll comment when I'm finished.

I can't thank you enough for the bits you've given all ready. Well, I suppose I could flail because now I really have to write this gargantuan thing, but it's only because I love you people.

Ben and Polly aces_are_rare August 6 2008, 20:22:31 UTC
It all began when they tried to return a key. They stepped inside the TARDIS just before it dematerialized. Polly found this to be exciting, Ben spent the next couple of eps worrying about missing his boat (he's in the Navy, and was on leave.) and wanting to go home to 1966 ( ... )
