The Island This was a great movie. Visually, it was incredible. It hearkened back to the wonderful dystopic films of the 60's and 70's with tones of Logan's Run, Brave New World, 1984, etc. It then segues into a very passable action movie. Heck this one even has a message, although it doesn't beat you over the head with it. And through it all runs a sly sense of humor that will have you laughing out loud.
The performances in this were exceptional, as would be expected given the cast: Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Bean, Steve Buscemi. The direction was also quite good. Michael Bay has gotten a bad rap for making action fluff... But I guess I just like action fluff and his is some of the best. However, this movie had a lot more depth than the average Micheal Bay action flick.
This is like the sleeper blockbuster of the summer. It's not part of some recognized franchise, it won't (I hope) have a sequel, but it is very well made and very worth the price of admission. Do yourself a favor and see this one.
My Rating: 9 of 10, Highly Recommended even if you aren't a Micheal Bay fan
