Best! Class! EVER!!!

Appalachian Culture class today was the most fun thing ever!! We talked about Appalachian Music today, and a woman in her nineties who's been playing hammer dulcimer for most of her life came, along with one of her students (a man in his fifties who started playing 7 years ago). Very cool. Dulcimer is an amazing instrument and its one that isn't too common either. The fact that you took to it is somewhat surprising, but not the fact that you were good at it, because you rock!! I'd love to here this lady play as well. Nothing better than music that doesn't come from a studioand isn't played for commercial success. Reminds me of the Jubilee, where people would sit outside the craft barns and just play, fiddle, banjo, bass, and guitar. Unfortunately, this type of "folk" music seems to be predominantly the domain of an older generation. It makes me happy to see someone our age take to it.

Apparently a bunch of people play folk or Celtic music every Tuesday in Percival hall. We should check it out sometime.
