I've done sixteen months of med reg now, will do 18 by the time I go to OOPR. I've had various problems (health, personal) and have concluded the only reason it is worth it is the amount of private work you can do at be end. If you don't believe in private work, I think it's a lose-lose situation, what with the proposed move to 7 day working and the fact consultants on the acute/GIM rota will have to come in more during unsociable hours. Accordingly to the RCP less than 50, maybe even 40 percent of GIM CCT holders do acute medicine at Consultant level. I think this is going to drop - the drawbacks are offsetting the rewards ATM (just read doctors.net).
