These Days

Heard Tom Rush's "River" on the radio -- good tune. One of his YouTube things is a version of Jackson Browne's song "These Days," and I listened to that for a bit, and it's not bad, but it's Nico's version of that song that's the defining one, for me at least.

According to allmusic.com, 10,000 Maniacs did "These Days," on their Our Time in Eden ( Read more... )

Interesting to think of these in relation to each other. Sometimes I like to play a bunch of songs on my ipod in alphabetical order. Usually you can get some interesting strings of songs with the same word at the beginning.

Your mention of Les Bains Douches reminds me that I haven't listened to it in a while. I don't think I really got Joy Division fully until I heard that record. I'm curious about this other live recording you mentioned, too.

If you click that last youtube link it takes you to the 11 January 1980 live version -- also, someone named fatcatbuzz uploaded most or all of the songs from that bootleg, apparently. The image on youtube is the same CD cover I have, with the "An Evening With..."

I didn't take to Joy Division immediately -- I guess it takes time for a lot of people.

wow, till i followed the link i had no idea the Tom Rush one is on an album i have / and, sure, innocuous/undistinguished. so why do i have it even? maybe for "Driving Wheel"? it's the only thing i can remember ..

December 9.. hmm, if i'd known about this a week or so ago, this would make an interesting entertainment choice for a 3 hr drive. my 9:30 Club experience is an uneven one: Bardo Pond blew me away, GY!BE - a few years past their prime - bored the shit out of me (tho', admittedly, i was fighting with my accompanying date ..), and then there was the show i ( ... )
