Personality: When you first meet Grell, she comes off as cheerful, flamboyant, overdramatic, and overbearing at times. Mainly she seems to be in good spirits, speaking in tildes and sing song, and it's easy to imagine hearts at the ends of her sentences. She's quite flirtatious as well, though her flirting isn't very innocent, and often borders on the pornographic, remarking on all the things she would love to do with someone, to someone, or have done to her, accompanied by inappropriate body motions as well (e.g. wiggling, running a hand down her chest toward her groin).
She has a tendency to be a drama queen. Her actions are usually exaggerated, and she has to make a big deal out of everything. In that she also enjoys theater, often comparing her life to theatrical classics, and putting herself in the heroine slot. This has also made her a great actress. She was able to act a bumbling, stuttering idiot in front of a demon, and fool him. It's not beyond her to suddenly burst into monologue at random.
However, if you cross her on a bad day, she's quite the opposite. Cold, biting remarks at first, which will then escalate quite quickly to violence. She's quick to mood swings; sometimes no one will even know exactly what set her off. She's a sadist at heart (sexually and otherwise), and often expresses herself by causing people pain. She's stated that her favorite color is red, and that she loves the blood that comes out of humans. In the series, she told the main characters that she made whores beautiful by the gruesome way in which she killed them. (It's also my personal belief that part of her love for Sebastian really comes from a desire to rip him open and see what's on the inside.)
Grell is inherently selfish. If it benefits her, she's going to do it, no matter what, whether it's dangerous, or against the rules. Canonly, she works an office job, with occasional field work. Being a Shinigami in Kuroshitsuji means a lot of paper work and desk jockeying, with the opportunity to go out and collect souls, at least in the division Grell works. She's demoted several times, though, due to her disregard for the rules and authority in general. This is mainly seen in the Jack the Ripper arc when she completely went outside the parameters of her job and actually committed murders. Yet she did so, knowing it was against regulations, because it would be more fun for her in the long run.
Having said that, she hates suffering the consequences of her own actions and will whine and pout about it for days.
It should be noted that while Grell identifies and thinks of herself as a female, she is biologically a man. However, she helped Madam Red kill prostitutes seeking abortions because she sympathized with not being able to give birth, and in the book of extras, it's stated that she does indeed want a sex change. She has no aversion to dresses and loves wearing pretty things, but work uniform requires her to wear male clothing (which she does, though with her own add-ons: the red coat she stole from Madam Red, her loooong red hair, and the decor on her glasses).
Random facts: She loves loves loves the color red, and has a penchant for skulls (the charms on her glasses, and the way she cut the bushes in the lawn while pretending to be a butler) and skull decor, and killing.
Abilities: Being a Death God, she comes with your standard super human strength, and reflexes. She also oversees the deaths of humans and collects their souls to be judged. This means she has access to their cinematic records, able to view their life through a filmstrip. She also possesses a deathscythe, though her's is custom made as a red chainsaw. This chainsaw is what allows her to reap humans and view their records.
