Picture on a resume

Here's a question I can't find a clear answer to. Do you put a picture on your cv or no? All the websites say it's up to you. People at work say you should.

Thing is, I don't want to. If they want to only select people that look a certain way, do I really need to be working there?

I wouldn't. It's not legal here, but some employers discriminate based on looks (and even name) for whatever reason. Too black? Too white? Too Muslim-looking? Too gay/lesbian looking? Too fat? Too young? Too old? Etc., etc., etc.

It feels wrong somehow. I get that for certain positions (like reception) you do want a person who looks groomed.

But I just feel it's not right. It might not be realistic. But I want to be hired for what I can do. On the other hand, getting in the door...

I'm going to ask around. See what people who hire think.

Well, yeah. It is wrong and mostly illegal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Employers can always come up with some other reason why they haven't hired someone.
