dear god (also a lot of talk about the mechanics of peeing)

so today i went in and had laproscopic kidney surgery. i handled the anesthesia with flying colors, so well that after 5 or so hours the doctors determined i could leave since by that point i probably wouldn't have any issues. it was slightly risky but i was in SO much pain and there was nothing that could be done in the hospital aside from pump me ( Read more... )

no, i think it's more "i have no alternative other than to suck it up and cope with this so i will suck it up and cope with this" though it's not like i'm being particularly active right now ;)

but thank you for the positive thoughts! and yes, small dogs are awesome <3

So glad that things went well!

I'm sorry to hear that you're in a ton of pain, though. I can't imagine going through surgery and recovery without painkillers. You are definitely more badass than I am.

I agree with jb: puppy cuddles!

no it's not about being badass, i just don't have any alternatives ;) badass would be if i was some hardcore straight edge person who willingly opted out of painkillers. though being on this side of the equation i'd think more "crazy" vs "badass" ;)

puppy cuddles are awesome! i wish the bear was a little more low energy but he's so psyched to see me it is about to turn into puppy wrestles which i am not up for.

speaking of ouchy things, how is your foot?

it's gross for sure! i am glad that they talked me out of doing this under twilight sedation as i probably would've kicked someone in the head! but that said, if i had the choice i'd have a morphine drip right now ;)

(but i do feel like i sort of have some understanding of what labor is like now. though instead of having a baby at the end of it i have a pile of crushed stone, which is not as great a reward in some ways)

Ow!

I had similar things done to me down there in the plumbing when I was very young (not for stones, but to figure out other things). You never forget something like that. I probably was on some pain stuff (this was the late 60s) but I definitely remember all of it and watching the little black-and-white X-ray video monitor with a sense of detachment that was almost a relief.

oh god you are so right on the never forgetting stuff like this.

one thing i missed out on was the whole "lithotripsy in the tub" thing, that sounds practically delightful compared to this ;)
