dieting and fire

I remember once, years ago, before I got sick even, talking to someone about how they were allergic to white gas...and at the time I was sort of confused as to how one came to know they were allergic to white gas, what it was, and why someone would want to play with it ( Read more... )

Do you like biking? I have a friend from Portland who used to go on group rides around LA and it sounded like there are some trails / paths that are scenic and not super hardcore... I feel safer in groups when riding in the city too 'cause I never learned as a kid and am not very good.

biking on the beach is awesome, though i've been doing good just with the walking. i'm way rusty when it comes to city biking, something i really need to work on.

my brother's really taken to biking. he'll go from venice down to manhattan beach and back (on the beach bike path i think). bikes everywhere it seems. he was in town this week and his calves are like rocks. so here's another vote for biking in your area. :)

Who needs cinnamon or chocolate when you have FIRE? I love the photos of you with your fans and other implements.

well honestly weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise. i know in a lot of paleo circles the ideal is to walk 10k steps a day and then maybe do HIIT 2-3 times a week.

I'm not a huge fan of Jillian Michaes, her stuff seems to be for short term results but I don't know anyone who has been able to use her stuff long term with any benefit. though i'm sure it's good to get your endurance up at the very least. i also dislike her use of barbie weights. higher weight less reps works a lot better.

i am sure there are hoopers in chicago. just look around on FB for burn clubs or hoop troops

i just also don't find her stuff safe, though everyone is different. i tried the 30 day shred, her kettlebell dvd is a total joke...so overall i'm not sold. i'm curious about her yoga dvd but i've heard that's really brutal too. though if it works for you awesome!

overall i think that most hoop groups and flow art circles tend to be safe and friendly places. you could set up an account on either hoopcity.ca or hooping.org to see about finding people in chicago. i'm also better there are either hoop revolution or hoopnotica teachers there who would be able to help you get started (if you need that, i don't know what you're up to hoop wise!)

That's so very awesome. I'm really happy for you. :)

When I realized I had allergies and cut gluten and dairy, I found my energy rebound and my skin clear(er), on top of not feeling like i was going to puke after eating. It definitely prompted me to try to cut as much starches as I could from my diet, or at least be very conscious of which ones I'm eating. I tend to lean towards beans and quinoa, although the potato sneaks in more than it should, I admit.

If you have better willpower than I then this will be moot, but I've found that if I treat myself every once in a while it makes it much easier to deal with the cravings for cookies/chips/bread over the long term.

Good luck with everything!!!

it's interesting because i wanted to get tested for celiac (because i felt awful and noticed i felt worse after eating certain foods and wanted to figure out if it was the masto or something else) and my GI doctor's take on it was that in his opinion (and he's head of GI and Brigham and Women's so I've got faith in the guy) was that MANY people have varying levels of gluten intolerance that is just getting worse due to over exposure and that while he'd be happy to test me, he felt that it would be unnecessary and invasive to have me overdo it with gluten to have a proper biopsy if we already could establish that i felt better without gluten.

overall i've found that i only have cravings when i'm upset/emotional. otherwise now i just eat when i'm hungry, and when i'm solely hungry i've found that i don't care what i eat, but when i'm in a bad headspace, THAT is when I want a cookie or a doughnut or whatever.

and thank you! i'm glad to read that things have been awesome for you as well :)

thank you! i'm still self conscious since i'm way heavier than i want to be, but i have to just accept that the steroids and stuff put me back a lot. now it's just all about moving forward and apparently setting stuff on fire ;)
